Hehe... thanks guys.I am suprised no one mentioned the Cold Steel Recon Scout. I think that is an excellent combat knife for under $150.
Another source for reasonably priced but very rugged combat knives would be Mineral Mountain Hatchet Works. I have a MMHW Integral Guard Fighter which I bought second hand at a gun show. It is built like a tank.
One word of caution, though. Unless there have been recent improvements, Ted Frizzel's kydex sheaths are not in the same league with his knives. They seem to loosen up easily, and I heard of one irate customer who lost an MMHW knife because it fell out of the loose sheath, quite soon after he bought it. The sheath for my Integral Guard fighter is also loose, and I plan to put a strap on it to keep the knife from falling out.
And Mighty Goat, if you are like most of us knife collectors you will be wanting another one sooner than you think!
