Reccomend me a good large folding knife?

Just curious but, what's wrong with made in China? How is China worse than Japan in this regard?

On a side note- Aren't Apple products made in China? I wonder how many people access Bladeforums on their made in China Apple computers and say "I won't buy a knife made in China". Wouldn't that be ironic. I just checked and I noticed that my Hewlett Packard computer is made in China too. It's a safe bet that many of the things that people use every day were made in China.

A.G. Russell Large folding hunter?

$60-$70
Blade Length 4-5/8″
Decent blade steel (low end but decent)
SOLID lockback
3 different materials for scales.

And Fairly large:

Only thing is, it's made in china. But, by one of the BEST american knife companies with one of the BEST garantees that you could get and every one of them checked by hand by the A.G. Russell company.

I agree with Charlie Mike. The Ontario/Hossum Retribution 1 and 2 are awesome knives. The number one is shown and it's the larger of the two with a 4.265 " blade.

I am looking for a good folding knife on the larger side. These are the thing it must have:
-under $100
-blade length ~3.5 inches+
-decent steel (especially for rust resistance)
-Good lock that is strong (no liner locks unless they are really good)
-adequite traction plan
-preferably not made in China

I am currently considering the Spyderco Endura. Made in Japan is a decent amount better than made in China, and the steel sounds good. If anyone know as a better knife that fits my description please tell me.
I would highly recommend the Spyderco Manix 2 XL. I know a store that has them for $90 dollars currently. I love mine. If you want I can PM you the store.

I'd say go with your original choice of the Spyderco Endura. As good a knife as you'll find for the price point. I personally like the waved version.

I'm not exactly sure but I'm fairly certain there are rules about political discussions here on the forums so all I can really say is that I really dislike China and prefer not to support China financially. Especially when my money could be going to US workers or workers in a country I like more than China. With knives it's really easy to not support china, with other products like electronics it is harder. That doesn't mean I'm going to stop trying to avoid sending money to China though.

Sorry I haven't got around to replying to your posts sooner.

What I plan to use this knife for is mainly as a large EDC, but also to have some hard use capabilities. The hard use I would likely put it rough would be carving and whittling wood. No batoning, just hard push cuts with the side-to-side torque that comes with it.

I don't want it to be made in China for a few reasons. One is that if something is made in USA or Japan, because the workers are paid better they are likely to be more careful when building it and the quality to be better. The other one is what other people think of it. If I had a made in China knife that had as good of tolerances as an American made one, cool. Although, other people that see the knife would likely think "made in China, that's a ripoff for that price."

Why are you not looking at Case, Queen, or Canal Street? they all make large knives and all in the USA.

I'm sure you consider Taiwan part of China...so a Recon 1 is probably out of the question.

Actually, Taiwan is the real China, in exile. So, anything that supports Taiwan pisses off the communist government of the land we call China.

So, that said, I'd recommend the Cold Steel Voyager clip point 4", The Spyderco Paramilitary 2, Benchmade Griptilian if you're good at reprofiling and sharpening, or one of the Spyderco Manix 2 series.

Lots of Para Militay2 talk, +1 from me, and I'm looking for a 2nd.

The ZT 350 comes up a little short with a 3.25 inch blade, but they go in the $100 range on Ebay, it's more unique than the PM2

Manix 2 XL is on my radar, looks to be a good blade with some heft to it.

Loads of good recommendations!!!!!!!!

I'd look at the Kershaw Piston. I don't know what your definition of a "really good" liner lock is, but the Piston uses an inlaid liner to keep weight down, and Kershaw usually gets their lock geometry right.

Or you could also check out the TOPS/BUCK CSAR-T folder. Made in America & one AWESOME HD piece of hardware. I have the fixed blade. I will be getting a folder as well. I have handled them & can say with confidence, that it is the total package. Oh yeah, it is $100 too. Sheath is awesome & HD as well.

Been looking at other options, what do you guys think about the Kershaw Shallot?
(By the way, I don't like liner locks but I like framelocks. I just find liner locks too thin and easily moved)
