Hey guys I'm looking to get into Buck knives. I've never had a buck before so I was looking for some help. Looking for a folder with a blade under 3 1/4 inches. What would be your top choices I think I'm going to get 2 or 3 different models. Thanks!

112, 500, small Vantage. Be warned ,these things are habit forming.Good luck and enjoy

I just got the buck lux pro and love it! Model 016. I am also with RedCanoe the 500 duke is beautiful!

What kind of knives do you like? Slipjoints, lock backs, liner locks, flippers, thumbstud...?

I'd recommend the Vantage series (choose from different levels for S30V, 13c26, or 420HC blades). The 500 series and 112 can be purchased in mass produced form, or for more $$, from the custom shop (500 series only), with your choice of materials. The new Marksman looks like a winner, too (3.5" though).

I like the Duke as a nice traditional folder. The alpha dorado is always nice too. But my edc is a spitfire it's cheap, light weight and has a multi position clip.

Im gonna have to second 300 on this one. The Vantage is an excellent choice. My EDC is a paperstone Vantage and I have an Avid also. I love the charcoal dymondwood. I just ordered the new avid from Larry. Can't wait to get it.

A Buck 110 is always a good choice. There are many with blades worn down to 3 1/4" :p

If you like the more classic looking knives, go for the 112 Ranger or the 501, if you want a more modern/tactical look the Vantage series are excellent.

Me personally, I have a Vantage Pro in my pocket everyday and when I go into the woods I have either a 110 or 112 on the belt.

The 110 is the classic everyone should have; given your blade length preference, go with the 112. Classic, but smaller.

Don't forget to get a full hilted one...stronger an more dependable an safer! it won't collapse like a folder under stress under extreme conditions. A BUCK 113 is a nice [compact] sheath knife. I also have a VANGUARD for deer hunting both drop points also and a BUCK 103 skinner knife. They are tools! an for survival great all around hilted knives. I guess what you are intending to use them for? Just like different calibers an weight's bullets in guns they all have different applications as a TOOL.

IDK, the 110 lock is pretty damn tough. I've used mine to gut deer and all sorts of stuff and never had a lock failure. I think unless you are planning on chopping branches or batoning for some reason you don't really need a fixed blade for hunting.
