Alright everyone, I have a question. I have been using an S60V blur for about the past 3 months, and, While i love it, i would like another option. It resides in my back pocket and so being thin is important. here are the general requirements.

under $50. this is pretty firm. I know that spending more could get me a higher quality product, I just do not have the budget to spend on production knives. my knifemaking hobby is already starting to get expensive.
3.5-4 inches. I might be persuaded to go lower, but that is my preferred size range. my skyline just does not cut it.
Thinnish
weight is not a problem
plain edge, no exceptions.
Steel: basically anything except aus 8, 8cr13mov, and the like. I really want something that will hold an edge for a LONG time. For example, my 0200 went through about 4, 1/2 inch diameter sticks, trimmed them, and then thinned the tips to make them suitable for roasting sticks and still has a perfectly fine edge after starting with a edge that didn't shave.

THIS IS THE BIGGEST THING: it can not be a kershaw or ZT product. My collection consists of kershaws, a ZT, and nothing else. Since i live in the area of the factory, i have no doubt that i will be getting more at the sale. I need something of a different brand.

Thanks in advance.

Steven

Maybe try a Boker product from the Plus line. The Chad Los Banos designs are pretty sweet, imo. Look at the Hyper, Trance or M-Type.

Good luck! :)

How is the 440c for edge retention? I really do not want to have to sharpen it any more than i absolutely have to.

i would recommend a Spyderco Endura. you can get one off cutlery shoppe for about $54 dollars. very thin. vg-10 steel holds an edge nearly as good as s60v. its not a kershaw! it is a great knife, if you buy one, you wont regret it!

Pretty good, imo. Boker does a nice heat treatment. To be perfectly honest, my Hyper hasn't seen any hard use but I haven't had to sharpen it yet; still shaving sharp from the factory.
