Received an ASTK today...Few pics with my Zilla ( quick update added)

Looking good! I might have to rehandle my ASTK. Mine was WAY too hefty for my tastes. Spine is absurdly thick. I would have preferred a thinner one like yours.

Absolutely stunning work Jroden5446! Ever thought about becoming a Kami? You would be one of the best at least in the re-handling department:thumbup:.

Thanks man! That's high praise.

Just finished it up to 400 grit, realized I'm out of everything above that, have to hit the auto store later,

You do good work, and fast! I think I could do something like that, but it would take me a month of evenings.

If you don't mind sharing your secrets:

1. What kind of epoxy did you use?

2. What kind of pins?

3. How did you apply the pins? I always worry that hammering the ends will damage the wood.

No problem man, and thanks

1.) locktite brand 2 part epoxy ( the stuff they sell at Home depot) haven't had any issues with it yet

2.) it's round brass pin stock from jantz supply, it comes in 12 inch lengths, cuts easy with a hacksaw

3.). I just cut them a little longer than I need, mix up some epoxy, get a coat of epoxy on them, just push them in, it's usually a snug fit, but not to tight, then just leave them till the epoxy cures

I'm speechless Jroden! That is absolutely stunning:thumbup:You could easily make some extra $ around here doing this stuff. Do you work in micarta/G10 as well? That wood is just beautiful in every way and your shaping looks incredible. Thanks for posting your work. Take care.

I've got some mesh backed stuff that goes up to 12000 grit. Great work, really gives it a unique and breathtaking look.

Jroden, you work pretty quick. How long did that take? That's beautiful work by the way:thumbup:. Like jdk says, you might HI owners sending you e-mails, lol.

It's funny, I really enjoy doing handle mods for myself, but I am worried if I started doing it for others, I would stop enjoying it

Total time was maybe 4 or 5 hours ( that's with waiting on the epoxy to cure to a hard enough state)

Very nice work! It is nice to see that there are others out there that have a 'zilla and HI HI kuks... :D

I've always looked for a chop off or comparison between the two, but could only find one with the Busse Bowie shaped blades. Now that they have ( the ASTK and Zilla) similar shaped slabs ( by that I mean custom fit to my hand) I'll have to do a bit more of an in-depth comparison

And, thank you everyone for the very kind words:D:thumbup:

I have a 42oz ASTK with one of the earlier thick tangs and I would prefer newer model that's about 28-32oz. Here's a couple pictures.

Myself I would prefer one of the older beefier tang versions at about 19"~20" since I am a somewhat larger person...

I wish that they would offer both versions for sale as I would think there to be a split in preferences.
