FAKE SPYDERCO ALERT - We sell on various selling channels other than our normal web store, and we had a customer ( I used the term loosely) purchase a Spyderco Manix 2 Combo Edge Knife (C101GPS2). They returned the knife wanting a full refund. Well the knife we received back was a Spyderco Manix 2 Combo Edge Knife but with a black blade. I know at one time Spyderco had a black combo version of the Manix 2, but it is not part of the 2016 lineup. Before we even looked up the order the knife felt cheap and had the wrong steel type and the country of origin. They are out there and unfortunately I cannot tell everyone this is the first time this has happened to us.

Always buy from well known and respected dealers, especially like the ones who support this forum. Thanks!!

Wow some people. I've heard of this sorta thing before but not on this forum. Hopefully you can do something about not having to give his money back since he didn't return the item he bought

Have dealt with Chip a few times......great dealer!!
Sad to see this happen my friend and hope you don't get any more grief over it.
Amazing how some guys don't give a shit about their integrity.......this one is dumping his for $100?? Sad

That's disappointing that someone would do that. Glad that they did not get their money back.

Chip this is a real shame. You guys have been nothing but great with me on the items purchased from you, fast delivery well packed and as discribed, now this guy wants a refund on a clone? Shame on him.

Customer wants refund for a knife that wasn't sold to him by Chip. The knife isn't a clone, rather Spyderco Tenacious (customer was sold a Manix which is expensive than the Tenacious).

Yes, it was a Tenacious, we just assumed it was a clone because of the box. I guess we were quick to the draw because the sells channel in question is full of people always trying to get something for free. Another way they try for a free knife is to claim we sold them a fake. We never do, and when a claim is made against us we have to go through this process with the sells channel proving the knife was purchased through an authorized source by providing invoices. Fortunately, we have never lost a claim.

We have been in the ecommerce business for over 12 years, and have never had this issue until now. I guess it’s the entitlement mentality some people in our sociality have. Sometimes I wonder why we even sale there.

Did they try to screw you? You do sell that particular model of Tenacious... Perhaps it was an honest mistake? Either the wrong knife in the right box or wrong box with the correct knife.

Was there a letter attached identifying the knife and the issue which caused the request? I just fear it was "I'd like a refund for this please" and an assumption was made about the customer's intent due to a mismatched box.

A lot of us have dozens of knives and dozens of knife boxes. Wouldn't be hard for them to be mismatched.

That said, this sort of thing does happen a lot. Particularly with Amazon. I've gotten a couple fake products from them before because they were stolen via a counterfeit return.

I do not think it was a mistake as this was their first purchase from us and we ship all orders. I know what they ordered and what was sent out the door. There was no communications via email/phone call in advance nor was there a note in the box, and it was well outside the normal return period. They only way we were able to look up their order was by the return address on the box. We did communicate with them after the fact and nothing has been heard back. Unfortunately from what we have experienced we believe this was someone trying to take advantage of a selling channel that normally sides with the customer over their merchants regardless of the situation. The fact it was outside the normal return period is more than likely the only reason we did not loose our money. I am all for giving someone, especially our customers the benefit of the doubt, but unfortunately we were not offered the opportunity to do so.

Yup! Happens all the time because the scammers know how the banks or CC companies deal with this stuff.
