Hi everyone, well I received my blemish DOTD 15in AK by Bhakta. Its a great kukri with excellent balance, it only weights 23oz which I find very comfortable in the hand especially at that blade length. It didn't come with a karda or chakma but that's no big deal to me and I am happy with just the kukri. The sheath was excellent with that nice leather smell that only HI's have. Oh one more thing... I saw the triangle box sitting at my steps when I got home from work. It looked a little bigger than I am use to and weighed more than expected.
When I opened the box I had thought Auntie might of made a mistake because there were two kukris in the box. I unwrapped the newspaper from the first one and it was the AK I had ordered. It was in perfect condition except for a split in the horn near the rings. I had attached some photos and would appreciate any advice anyone could give on the proper way to repair this type of split. Anyway... I unwrapped the second kukri only to find a note from Auntie. She has sent me a KLVUK out of the kindness of her heart. I really couldn't believe how much of a class act she really is. I posted some pictures of the KLVUK and it has a different type of wood handle than I am use to. What type of wood is it? It was very dry and I soaked it in boiled linseed oil. It absorbed a few coats of oil and I will apply a few more tonight. I cant tell how the kami its so maybe you guys can tell me. There is a half moon marking along with the normal marks. Soooo...any info on, How to repair the horn handle on the AK? What type of wood is on my complimentary KLUVK? Any info would me much appreciated!
Enjoy the pics...

The villager handle appears to be neem wood. And while it is hard to see, it appears that the kami mark may be a little fish, which is Lok's mark.

Bhakta AK and Neem is my vote! Nice KLVUK! Thats is an odd crack.
Half moon may be Keshar Lal but cant tell from the pic.

Half moon on the KLVUK would be Keshar Lai, because Bura has allowed KL to use his mark.

Auntie is a real class act, isn't she?

That's a big crack. I usually use multiple coats of super glue to fill small cracks but that is too wide for that. I'd buy some 2 ton epoxy and some black rit dye. Mix the epoxy as directed and add one or two drops of the dye. Use a thin flexible tool to push epoxy into the crack.

If you use slow setting epoxy you can wait 10-15 minutes before to try to apply so it won't be as runny.

After 48 hours you can sand the epoxy to a flush fit, repeat until the crack is full.

Once crack is repaired you can polish the horn back to its original luster.

Awesome! thanks for the advice. I think that might be the best route. I have this stuff called Maine Tex but it leaves a very dull finish that wont blend in, the epoxy and dye idea seems the most logical.

Oh.. and I think you are right about the Neem wood guys, I rehydrated it with some boiled linseed oil and the grain is just gorgeous. Its very striking once the black grain lines become visible from oiling.

I use loc tite brand two ton epoxy, it takes dye very well. Dont use too much dye as it will prolong drying due to the inks solvent content.

Maine Tex or Marine Tex? Marine Tex is just like Brownell's acra glas, I think it's the same stuff and it would work really well.
Acraglas comes with brown and black dye that if carefully mixed could match that handle perfectly.

Thanks for the spelling correction lol. Yes... I meant Marine Tex , don't know what I was thinking about. Maybe I was thinking about going to the Kittery Trading Post for some ammo this weekend in Maine... yes that has to be it. Either that or I am just getting very old and forgetful. Think Im going to go the epoxy route because I can get a gloss finish with it. I am going to attempt it tonight so wish me luck!

I would tape along the crack as best possible before adding any epoxy ect so you can limit the area effected. Then remove the tape and let dry then sand.

That's actually great advice. I was just about to mix up some epoxy. Im glad I decided to check the forum before attempting the repair. I prob should of thought of that before hand... Thanks for the tip, you always have useful comments.

Damn man lucky you! I wanted a neem klvuk but auntie ran out by the time I ordered! Gratz man, Polish up that handle and shoot some pics, can't wait to see her shine!

I cleaned up the handle and its gotten ten coats of boiled linseed oil. It really darkens up when hydrated, the black grain really pops! This type of woods seems very hard and tough.

You may have received my KLVUK. I was supposed to get the 15" from the 9/12 blemish sale. Got my package and it had the baby Chiruwa Ang Khola VBCAK. I thought I had called the wrong knife at first but after going back over the thread they had sent me the wrong one. I really liked the one they sent though so I emailed Auntie and told her I would pay the difference for the KLVUK because I still really wanted one. She told me to keep the baby Chiruwa as an early Christmas gift and she would get a KLVUK right out to me. I thought that was an awesome gesture. Needless to say they gained a customer for life.

That is auntie, she is one class act, and if all companies had customer service like hers, the world would be a much better place indeed.

Im not sure if its the one you ordered. I will take more pictures once the handle is finished, maybe you will be able to tell from the updated pics. It's cleaning up nice and has to be one of the sharpest kukris I own. Im glad Auntie hooked you up, she really is one of kind. She puts positive energy into the collective consciousness. We are all the recipients of her good karma. We should all take a page or two out of her book and be as generous to other people in our lives. I feel blessed to have stumbled across HI by accident... Or was it an accident? All energy flows according to the whims of the great magnet.

I'm not worried about it. It found you and one found me so it's all good.
