One thing that never ceases to amaze is how many surprises you will be met with when dealing with our Uncle Bill! Because of the recent problems associated with new software on BFC I have been reading the forums less lately, and especially the HI forum. When I did get a chance to read it last, everyone was discussing the Shop 2 kagas katne, which are the little mini-khukuris that Shop 2 is making like authentic khukuris instead of the traditional brass ones. Anyway, I lamented the fact that I was too late to get on the first run, but happily realized that another run was being planned, so I was in no hurry. The surprise came when i checked my mail at school and, unbeknownest to me, there was a package containing two of these little beauties with no warning from Bill at all!
Can you say "Christmas come early"? I enjoyed the surprise, for sure. These little knives are too cool for words. With the exception of the butt cap (there is none), these look just like HI village khkuris. Basically a scaled-down version of the typical 15" utility model. Cool little cho, nicely finished bolsters, and wonderfully shaped horn handles of exclellent materials and finish! These are superb! The blades are sharp and have a nice finish, too. The mini-sheaths are simply incredible and are exact replicas of their big brothers except for the chakma and karda. In short, these are high quality knives that any HI or khukuri fan must own. I think the buttcap-less handles look gorgeous that way, and the craftsmanship really is quite fine for these little suckers. In fact, I would say that a full-sized version of these knives would sell for $200 or more. The handles are just great (the one thing that doesn't quite match up with HI's kamis is the village handles I am used to). Another A+ for HI
and Uncle Bill. Get on the waiting list, guys!
Also, since I now have my own kagas katne, I can make those Kydex sheaths for people if they want them, and they can save on the shipping costs a bit now. I'll see if I can't get a prototype made with a price estimate scanned here soon.

Many thanks for review, Chiro. They are very neat little khukuris.

And that is the reason you got the two early. There was a lot of interest in the kydex sheath and possible neck carry. I wanted it to be available ASAP so that those who wanted one could get one perhaps at about the same time their own Kagas Katnes arrived here.

Make the prototype and post the pix.

Ahhh...there is always a method to the madness!

I made a sheath today that is butt-ugly, but works great. I just wanted to make sure it was possible. Future ones will be nice-looking AND work great, so no worries. If folks want them I'm ready to make 'em. The technology I have available for scanning is not working at the moment, so no pics will be available. If you want one, I'll make it and ship it and if the fit is right you can send a check.

Well, I guess it's okay for me to post the price here. If not, I'll delete this message... I was thinking $13.20 would be fair for the neck sheath. Add another $5 for multicarry belt options. I may even be able to lower those prices a bit if I get enough orders. Of course, that icludes materials, time, and return postage via Priority Mail. I have Black Concealex and Kydex, gray Kydex, and camo patterns of Concealex (camo patterns will face an extra charge due to the expense, however). For hardware I have your choice of aluminum or black stainless steel Chicago screws.

Chiro, you know I almost never edit a post. I think I have twice in 15,000 posts.

This is one of those rare instances in which the sheath costs more than the knife -- but it seems a fair price to me. Especially after playing with some of the kydex that was sent to me. Not my line.

Bill, I have thought about that, but this is honestly the lowest I can get it. When you buy a sheath from me you are paying for my time, not so much the materials. Even a little sheath like this runs about 45 minutes from beginning to end, and if you add $3.20 for postage, plus the twenty minute round trip to mail them, then you can see I'm not really making out too well. I'm sure a full line of production could get these suckers down to $5-$10 a piece, but I am a small volume custom maker, so that's where the difference is. Offer still stands, though!
