Received my KME Sharpener today

I'm so torn between the kme and wicked edge...I can get the kme gold kit with all the chosera stones and complete cbn strop kit for about $100 less than getting the gen 2 wicked edge with ball joint arms, 100-1k diamonds, the 1200/1600 ceramic, and 14,10, 5, 3.5, 1, and .5 micron diamond strops.

Decisions decisions....

One quick question, earlier in this thread someone said that the kme and a sharp maker was all you needed. I have both. Do you use the sharp maker after the kme or just for touch up's? Please explain?

Did you look at the WE PP1 kit? If I priced it out right, based on your post, with that kit, all you'd need to add is the Ceramics and 2 diamond strops, and it comes out only $5 more than what you have listed for the KME.

I think either setup would give you great results though. My .02, the KME without the Choseras would be a pretty complete setup... (of course with it, more alternatives to play with).

The kit I'm looking at comes with gen 2 100-1k diamonds and 14,10,5, 3.5,1, & .5 micron diamond strops with 2 extra of each compound tubes for $532...plus adding the ball joint arms for $149 and the 1200/1600 ceramic for $80.

I sent you an email.

Edit: p.s. My bad, missed the price of the arm upgrade.

First of all, let me say that I have never owned a WE. But from everything I have read, it is a great system. When a professional like Josh at Razor Edge chooses the WE, that speaks volumes.

However, it is more expensive, and I believe that the difference in functionality between the WE and the KME is minimal. Bang for the buck, I think that the KME wins hands down. Also, the customer service from KME is as good as you will ever find. I got the KME set with the diamond hones, and added one of the super coarse hone for re-profiling. If you want more, you can use the strops. I can get a really amazing edge on my knives, and have never regretted my decision to go with the KME.

YMMV, but I would just buy the KME gold kit and skip the chosera stones.

I was only looking to add the chosera stones for use after the diamonds for polishing purposes, or for use on easier sharpened steels. Just to get that really refined mirror polish on some knives.

I have the 3-10k chosera stones and the edge refinement and polish is worth it. I love the feel of the higher grits and watching the polish emerge. I will probably add the 1k and .5 CBN emulsion as well. Once you clean up with the roo strop the results will be nice!
This is my current setup.

I was planning on getting the complete set if I go with the kme (chosera stones and cbn strops)as imagine you would pretty much need em for a really fine polish, especially with the jump between 600 & 1500 on the diamonds

Those edges look great!

Thanks man! One trick to get a slightly better polish when using stock stones is when finishing up on the 1500 diamond is to use sideways strokes along the length of the blade <-----------> instead of up and down. It cleans up the scratches better.

After 1500 diamond you wouldn't need to go all the way back to the lower choseras. Possibly max 800 or so. But if you want the set than go for it! I will probably end up with them all at one point or another.

Just seemed cheaper to buy the set than piece em together
