I haven't had a chance to take some nice outdoor pictures with natural light but I took a few with my iPhone here at work and used Camera+ for some effects.

Overall, the knive is perfect, even above production standards. The action is SUPER smooth (as if it's not just a PB washer), the detent is just right, the blade is dead centered and everything about this knife is top notch, world class production.

I love the new ZT boxes too ;)

Not so sure about the S35VN stuff of late but time will tell. The bottom line though is this is a fantastic specimen of a heavy duty folding knife and I have to say, Zero Tolerance is on fire these days and could very well be at the pinnacle of production knife manufacturing.

** And I can't say enough about the quality of service that Dave (kershawguy) provides. He is on top of things and works hard **

Here are some low quality, enhanced with Camera+, iPhone pictures for the time being:

It feels exactly the same but there is ZERO break in time with this 0550. This 0550 feels like my 0551 after a few months of cycling. It feels like bearings it's so smooth. The lockbar does not stick one bit either. This is a very well built knife. A real serious contender and I have nothing whatsoever to nit pick about this knife BIG THUMBS UP.

Looks like they adjusted the blade grind near the ricasso so its not so thick and the sharpening choil is somewhat useful. That was my only design complaint with the 551, good to see they fixed it.

i like that scale design much much more :)

that's going on the short list :D

EDIT: I'm not worried about any "issues" with the new s35vn, I have one of the new strider SnGs with 35 and it's better than fine, this blade is just as thick so I don't see it being any problem :)

I've been carrying mine for a few days now, but I haven't really had anything tough to cut through yet. It's a pretty damn good knife, methinks.

I have a 0560 on pre order so I swore I wasn't going to buy this knife. Now I can't stop thinking about it after I saw your pics! Thanks...

I said the same thing but then threw my name in Dave's hat for a preorder. I should be getting mine via ninja mail early next week. :D

Yeah, I have the 560, 561 and 777 on preorder too - the ZT offerings of 2011 and 2012 simply can't be missed IMHO.

Good eye - I didn't compare them side by side . . .

If you have a caliper could you post some behind the bevel measurement?

I'm hoping it doesn't become a mess too ;) Any "step down" from S30V is not what the comsumer was expecting.

Is it starting to look like the new trend in tang grinds for the lock bar contact is drifting away from the radiused grind in favor of a more linear, angled grind?

I believe Mick Strider is doing the same thing now for what may be described as lessening the potential for developing up and down blade play and/or lock rock.

Here is the 0551:

Thanks for the kind words Reeek.

We learned a lot from the 0551, and do feel the 0550 is an improved involvement. Feel as we go on there will be continued tweaks. We're working on one now that will make the 0550's back end look tighter.

Thomas,

I think your customers are taking notice for sure, even your long term customers. You guys are stepping up for sure, not down or stagnant. Kudos.

Man, the 0550/0551 is starting to look like the next Para 2 -- just about everyone's got one! I'd love to jump on the bandwagon as it looks fantastic, but $$$ is super-tight right now. Congrats on the new addition!
