Received my ZT 0550 from kershawguy yesterday

Thanks, I was leaning that way. My only hang up was the debate over wheather or not s35vn is a worthy steel. Which brings me to the question of should i try to find a 0551 or call it a day and go with the 0550.

Yeah, might be worth seeing CTS's test of how the 550's s35vn holds up first:thumbup:

If you can get a 551 I would choose that first just because of the limited edition factor, but Reeek has both and he seems to think the 550 is smoother and more refined, so it's a tricky one.

Still though it's a nice dilemma to be in. Either way your going to end up with a great new knife.:)

You are correct on my opinion but I am also on record as believing Elmax steel is one of the best overall EDC steels for folders available today. The downside to the 0551 is that you would be paying about the same after market price as the expected street price will be for the 0560/0561 so if you are looking for a larger knife than the 0551/0550 with some really nice features like the 3D texturing on the scale/Ti side and a longer blade, flipper and KVT, you might be better off considering the 560/561 and grab a 0550 for the 0551/0550 form factor :)

I am SO glad ZT found it in themselves to start offering world class manual folders without Speedsafe and with and without flippers. I hope they find the kind of success with these iterations as they should because these are simply some of the best production knives available today for what you get in return.

ZT's newest knives literally bridge the gap between custom/mid-tech knives and high quality production knives. In fact, I feel like the newest ZT offerings are right up there in the mid-tech knife level without a doubt.

Yep. Pretty much exactly how I feel.

Not to mention that their QC is some of the most consistent I have seen, out of ANY company. That is not an exaggeration either.

So Reeek, say that the s35vn works absolutely fine, which I'm sure it will, would you still prefer the 551 to 550 because of the Elmax, even though the 550 may be a little smoother?

Just like to hear peoples opinions thats all:)

I like the refinements of the build made by ZT a lot. As much as I like Elmax, I would possibly try out the 0550 first because of the availability but that is also coming from someone who has a 0551, is on the list for the 560 and 561 and is expecting a Lion Spy in Elmax too.

Simply put, my EDC seldom needs the best steel by virture of what I use them for.

I took 30 side by side pictures and will be posting them up in a half hour or so too ;)
