Hi guys...

Heres a couple of recently completed friction folders I've made.

These represent my first try at creating a hamon line w/ Clay and 1095. Also the first opportunity to etch a makers mark on anything.

Feedback welcome and appreciated!

Thanks for looking

First one is my design for a good friend.
Second was a customers request to build a Friction Folder to his design.

Specs:
Blade: 3/16" 1095 w/ 2" cutting edge, Total length of about 2 1/4"
Handle: Olive drab G10 w/ Orange G10 backspacer. Grooved and blasted. Measures not quite 3.5" in length at longest point.
Blasted hardwear.

Specs:
Blade: 3/16" 1095, 2 1/4" cutting edge, 2.5" in OAL
Handle: Olive Drab G10 w/ Orange G10 backspacer. Grooved and blasted.
Blasted hardwear. The handle is 3 3/4" in OAL (I shortened it just a tad from the original design, it just fit better that way)
OAL: 6.5"

Nice pieces! I Really like the green/orange contrast...and nice hamon!

I'm thinking about making one myself; got the blade back from HT months ago, now trying to figure out the screws/pivot/washers/spacers/liners equation... Would you mind posting a shot of the pivot area, knife unscrewed?

Thanks for showing those very nice knives

Thanks!

Sorry, I've already got these boxed up and ready to ship.

but, heres a layout of the design I based mine on. The customer asked for a finger coil on his, so the layout is a little different.
This is just what I use to give me an idea, I do a lot of subtle grinding after I get the basic shape ground for fit in the open and closed position.
But this should give you an idea of what the insides look like.

Thanks - really appreciated.

You chose to go liner-less...I'm still undecided for mine. What was your reasoning (weight, toughness, complexity, cost, material availability)?

Sorry about all the questions :o

No problem..happy to help :)

Liner-less...all of the above I guess. Plus, just an easier build. That, and there really isnt any need for a liner in a friction folder. The G10 is plenty tough, very rigid, but mainly, since there is no locking device, I dont really see the need for a liner.
However, if you wanted to add a pocketclip or something, then you would probably need a liner as I dont think the G10 will hold the threaded screws.

Gotcha. My worries probably comes from the stop pin area; I was planning to "sandwich" a hardened stop pin instead of a screws and spacer (like yours?). Also, with usage, won't the washers grind the G10 at a fast pace? Hopefully the blade is the moving part but I'm not too sure of what's going on in there (the pivot area) :D

Yes, I was planning to put on a clip on but since decided against it, mainly because the stopper part of the blade would stick out of the pocket too much.

I will stop bugging down your thread now so others can actually comment on YOUR very nice knives :D

That is slick!

Allen

Thanks Allen!

Well, then you will need a liner for a stop pin if you do it as you describe, forgot about that part. But, I just use a 3/16" step pivot and that works well.
Nope, the washers are fine, yes..the blade is the moving part.

Dont worry about it bro..I think thats what this forum is for:thumbup:
