Recent purchase - older large regular

Welcome to the forum, great score!

That knife carries some value today, I'd use it and love it if it were mine, I hope that you do the same.
If you find that it's not your cup of tea you should now that you could sell it here quickly for more than it'd cost you to buy a new 21 or 25 but if you use it I doubt that you'll ever part with it. :)

Great knife - I have a pair of BG-42 Regulars from the mid-90s. Personally, especially if the knife is a "user," I would never consider refinishing it. My small BG-42 had to be refinished because I had it double-lugged, and all of the edges and the engraving get slightly rounded/softened (as you'd expect). It was on OK tradeoff for the double lug, but I would never do it unless it were absolutely necessary, which doesn't seem to apply in your case. :)

I agree. To me, the finish on a new sebenza is different from one back from the spa. It always feels smoother when new, but rougher back from the spa, thats why I dont send any in for the spa as I like the smoother original feel.

Regs are very nice but I really don't think you can beat the fit and finsh or the Originals with their ats-34 blades, just my opinion of course, and that is a beautiful knife that you have. A Large Regular with bg42 is a close second.
Are the blade profiles of the originals and the regulars the same? The originals have a handle shape more similar to the 21, yes?

The original and regulars have very similar blade profiles.

Heres a quick shot.

Thanks for the pic. Now that does it for me! The reason I wanted a regular was for the blade shape, but I think I like the 21 and 25 handle shapes better. That original seems to be the best of both worlds.

What are the chances of actually finding a plain original? What should one expect to pay for a user?

I have recently purchased a large regular but usually carry my Classic. Habit, I guess. How can ya go wrong?

I have a small BG42 reg that I absolutely love. Wish I could find a large one, but as I require a lefty it's probably going to be a long search. I did find a large S30V reg recently (with double lugs!) which I also love, but I personally prefer the BG42 blades--especially the ones with the 2 tone finish, satin on the grind and matte on the flats. Can't tell if yours is one of those. The regulars are my favorite CRK folders, by far and BG42 is my favorite CRK steel.
