Recent work, desert Ironwood handle

That appears to be a copy of a Jerry Hossom Vengeance. Are you saying this is his recent work, or yours?

Truly bad form, and not very flattering. Ironically I've been helping someone in China with questions about using CPM-3V. I suspect this is that person.

...wonder if he's related to the guy that's been asking me questions about my handle wrap?

A blatant copy, for sure. In most of the world this would be considered very bad form, if not outright design theft. The Chinese culture, however seems to view things a bit differently. A google search on "Chinese copycat culture" will yield some interesting articles on the topic. It's something that both makers and collectors should be aware of...

Shanzhai!!!!

That's a shame. Hard to believe someone would be so blatant as to try and post a copy of such a distinctive style on BF...

My first thought was "Jerry... did something happen to your user name?"

Ridiculous. Recent "work"?

Of all the styles he could have chosen, he picks a Hossom to copy? Sheesh.

Hello!I love the Jerry Hossom’s knife very much, I do this only learning and not do it again, salute to the master.

Funny, the instant I saw it, I thought, that is a nice Hossom, I wonder if the real Hossom has seen it,

Then I scroll down and see the Man him self commenting.

The sad part is the grinds and work seem great.

Imagine if this gentleman spend the time making his own designs. They would be lovely.

In fact, I bet there are literally thousands of historical designs that many collectors would love to see, and would not be intellectual property theft.

A nice looking knife, and lovely handle materials.

Just focus on making designs that don't belong to another maker, and you will be a favorite.

Thank you Bigfattyt,(Just focus on making designs that don't belong to another maker, and you will be a favorite. )I will do that。

I think you have a very bright future in knife making. That knife looks great. It is just a very distinctive style of Hossom.

There really are tons of designs that are so common they are in the public domain, and there are not issues with copying. Hossom designs areally not in that category. Loveless, Scagle, big bowie knives, many, many designs

Don't let us chase you off, as long as you are making your own designs, or open designs, you will be appreciated by those who love well made knives.

You have shown excellent skill with a hollow grinding wheel and sculpting a handle.
I'm looking forward to seeing some of your own original work.
Please show us when you have some of your own work completed.:)

Well done, but not so good with the design theft. Some original work would surly be appreciated next time around.

I would take the opportunity to apologize to Jerry and ask his permission to use his designs. Assuming you are not trying to pass your work as his or sell your copies, he may even let you. Personally I would not have a problem copying someone else's pattern as an homage or just to test my own ability, but I would definitely never sell someone else's designs, would probably not publicly share the work, and certainly if I did, I would be crystal clear that it wasn't my design.

You do have a lot of talent, so I hope this was just a faux pas or a language barrier issue.
