Josh does great work and is VERY talented, but for me, the top knife has too much going on and too many screws. I like the middle knife, and would like the last knife better without the colored blade(i'm not a big fan of colored blades).

Fit and finish look good on ALL of them.

Peter

I agree with peter. Josh makes great steel but all 3 knives have the same basic blade shape and similar handles. He also uses too many screws and they are too big.

I wonder where he got the idea for the inlay under the bolster?

I think the knives are all terrific. Great job, Josh.

I normally are not someone who stir up things, but in this instance I feel I have to say something. Chuck, I don't think it is very chique to critique a fellow knifemaker on an open forum. Especially not someone like Josh, who IMHO is miles ahead of you and is doing more than his share to further the knife community as a whole.

I wonder where he got the idea for the inlay under the bolster?

What do you mean by this remark? I noticed on your website that you have at least one knife with something similar...are you claiming to be the inventor of this design?

Hey guys, pipe down.... I am sure no harm was meant
anywhere..... Little things like this are for Josh like water on
a duck's back... So just ignore, he surely will!

And Josh, the one in the middle really does it for me!

All the best,

Similar blade shapes on these examples yes, but very artisic knives IMO. Most knives have screws in the bolsters so its not something that ever bothered me.

David, of course you're absolutely right but in this instance I couldn't control myself.

And Josh, for me #2 is the most appealing also.

I agree David.
Josh is very innovative in his designs and will push the envelope at times for the sake of artistic progression of custom knives.
Some will be liked, some won't. So let's enjoy, learn and entertain productive discussion.

The second is my favorite as well.

Jon Posted the photos and said "let me know what you think?"

So I am letting him know what I think. Do you think me saying that Josh uses too many screws is going to drastically change how he makes his knives? Most likely not. It's constructive criticism.

Smaller screws and less of them would let us see more of the striking damascus that Josh makes, right?

Everyone is subject to the like and dislike when you post pictures in an open public forum.

Thanks guys for your opinions. It doesn't bother me in the least when people offer their likes or dislikes, i.e. screws, when posting knives on forums. I welcome the opinions and store them for future reference.

In regards to you Chuck I'm not sure what exactly your asking with the bolster. I got the idea while sitting at my bench designing the knife. Please let us know what your getting at.

I also like this one the best - looking at this piece again I see there are several different materials, textures, colors and processes (the window pane bolster)
and they are work together in harmony to produce this stunning (all 3 are stunning) folder.

And... I am sure it it really smooth......

Very nice - I like the bolster inlay on the top knife very much.

Thank you very much Neil.

Smooth might be an understatement. :)

I have two of his folders and they aren't only smooth but fast as hell. Like a switchblade. But the blades still sit tight and solid. His action has a different feel then most people might be used to. The locks are also positioned a bit differently.

I think the middle one is my favorite. The only thing is I prefer more colorful ivory and I think I need a blue blade from him one of these days.

Once in awhile I stop down at my neighbor Josh's abode and check out what the young man is working on.Never ceases to amaze me some of the stuff he does.Should have seen the sword for some emir in the mid east.Wowie zowie!!!!!!!!!!!!What a blade. The guy can sure make some cool goodies. Not always my piece of cake but always with a WOW factor.
