I haven't been able to post for a while but have got back in the forge and have some recently finished pieces that i would appreciate some input on. thanks,

How many ways can you say WOW I really love the work on the handle with the "dog" its gorgeous. I'd like to learn the process. About how many hours did you put into creating it and is the same process used for the bolsters" that's a beautiful knife

Thanks guys, the carving was done on tiger striped maple and was done using a combination of carving and wood burning. the fittings were made by taking some 1"dia mild steel stock and forging it into ovals then grinding out a grove all the way around about 3/32"deep leaving about 1/8"shoulders on either side. then i twisted some 14ga mild steel rod forged it flat and then forged it into the groves. a couple small welds to keep ever thing in place. ground the surface smooth and then soaked it in hot oil for a couple hours then wire brushed to finish. i really liked the effect, kind of primitive yet with some air of sophistication.
