question 1: how straight is the grind on the blade suppose to be. if i were to put the blade (cutting edge) down on a flat surface should light come thru? just curious.

question 2: if this was to ever need sharpened, what is the best means to do the job? never had a knife quite like this one.

Hey,
The goal is to keep the cutting surface as straight as possible on that particular design. If yours is not and you feel the amount is enough to be significant, send it in and we will address it immediately.

hey duane,
we're up a little late aren't we? laugh. it's only about a 1/32" of light showing thu in the area that i highlighted with red/white. i'll respect your expert opinion being that YOU are the knife man, not i. i'm just starting to get into the edged weapons and don't really know too much about them. also, highlighted in blue is a surface that i'm not familiar with. this surface is purely for penetration i assume. correct?

KillerKain,

Wow! Congrats.

Anyone: KK mentioned about sharpening his/her knife. Does anyone care to share? Especially if anyone of you know of a system that you could recommend?

It looks more like a tool, not a knife.

I hate to admire another mans tool, but yours really looks handsome Killerkain.

How long did you wait for it to be built and on a scale of 1-10 how would you rate the overall quality? Is the finish smooth or more "utilitarian" with machine marks and slight imperfections? From the pictures it looks super sleek and well finished.

My hat's off to your new tool.

Killerkain,
For that amount, I would not worry about it. You will not have any functional differences due to that. Wait until you need it serviced and we will straighten it at that time.
It is our policy however to keep you pleased with the knife so again I will say, feel free to send it in and we will fix it immediately if you wish.
What happened is this; when the actual cutting edge bevel was put on the knife, after a few passes, it was ground a slight bit more in the center of the edge vs. the fore and aft. This is also a common occurance seen in knives that have been sharpened and resharpened over time. Either way we will be glad to take care of it.
Re: the tip on this knife, we designed the tip geometry on it for penetration and strength in every angle of use. It is not meant to be a fine cutting surface. The only way to achieve a fine cutting surface here is to change the geometry to lesser included angles resulting in weak tip strength.
Thanks for your business and your interest,
Duane Dwyer

thank you, i like to show off my tool when i can. yes, after handling it for the first time it does seem to feel more like a tool than a knife. kinda hard to explain.

- it took approx. 6 months from the time that i had ordered the knife (which is exactly what mr. dwyer told me it would take).
- it is (IMHO) a very high quality blade. i haven't owned too many knives and by no means consider myself an expert in the field but i am quite happy with what
i've recieved from the strider guys.
- definately stressing usefulness. i think it's more "utilitarian" but still "pulchritude" at the same time.

on another note....

thanks duane,
i think i'm gonna run it through the mill first. maybe down the road here when it's thoroughly abused, you might get it back.

thanks for your time & info.
