OK, I know asking about a $10.00 knife is bound to elicit more than a few groans and comments like “wadda ya think yer gonna get for 10 bucks?” On the other hand, we’ve seen some remarkable blades – mostly from China – showing up on line and in that price range. I figure there are more than a few new ones that I don't know about yet.

Here is basically what I need: 2.5 to 3 inch blade, “lefty friendly,” stainless steel handle and pocket clip. Prefer something besides a liner lock, since they always put the lock on the wrong liner. I really like the look of the Sanrenmu 710 but the clip doesn’t look like it is reversible. If it was I wouldn’t be posting this.

And yes, I could go a few bucks over my budget!

Any suggestions appreciated!

Academy Sports has Kershaw half tons for $13 and Assets for $17. Half Ton's kind of an odd knife but the Asset is a bargin for that little cash. Right hand only clips on both though.

A Victorinox Spartan goes for around 15 USD. A china made Schrade Barlow goes for ~12 USD.

If you want a locking folder, I think Red Ryder makes a lockback for 10 USD. Other than that get the SRM 710. It`s a good knife for the money.

A few of the Spyderco Byrd line fits your requirements. SS handles and pocket clip. They have backlocks, though.

When you said $10, first thing that came to mind was the Kershaw Half Ton. Awesome little work knife.

I really enjoy my Sanrenmu 710. Perfect, small EDC size and razor sharp!

Somebody on the forums here gave me a Half Ton about a month ago.

It's not perfect, but it's not a bad deal for the price, either.

You can get a Swiss Army Knife for about the same price. Don't knock SAKs — you'd be surprised how many people with $70,000 nife collections have one in their pocket.

I'd take either one of the above over a Sanrenmu.

Mora #1. Used to cost $9 but went up a buck due to inflation...

The Douk Douk! What a beater of a knife - I have carried one for years and have sold as many people as I can on it. Sadly, it's only $10 if you can find a highly motivated seller. Otherwise they can go for up to $20.

You can pick between multiple options such as stainless or carbon steel blade, handle stamp, and blade type. The basic Douk Douk is still my favorite and is the easiest to acquire. It is by all means the epitome of a "good cheap knife."

Kershaw Crown can be had at wallyworld for $10. It's right hand clip only but does have duel thumb studs. 'Bout as good as your gonna get for $10.

SANRENMU 763 .... 2.68 blade, g10 or alum handle, axis lock, lightweight, tipup left/right click

kabar dozier .. pony up extra cash to like $20-25 mini's are 2.25 blade med 3" aus8. got a bit kit can switch clip and thumbstud. also eyehole variant available

spyderco byrd meadowlark 2 ..more $ like 16 frn 25 g10. similar to delica in dimensions

i have all as beaters. i'd say i prefer the meadowlark, then doziers, then sanremu.
meadowlark has delica familiarity and smooth open and safe close with choil.
doziers are nice too. own a thumbstud and eyehole 3". had to do some sanding near thumb/eye area for my opening preferences
sanrenmu has nice features for price, i feel thumbstud too close to handle and suffers from what i seen on another small sanrenmu axis lock knife (sanremu/land 6261) is that using the axis lock to deploy/close can run into cupping issue depending on your hand size

My first thought as well. Put your own clip on an Opinel. Rough Rider makes good knives. But that mora is a freaking steal. What a knife.

Funny how few people read the original question. Out of all the answers only the Sanrenmu 763 possibly fits the requirements. Spend a little more, and the Byrd line will do.

Came to post SRM 763, but see it has been covered. I know a lot of folks here cry foul at the country of origin, but it just can't be beat for the price...
