I "lost" my small sebe to my wife and need to replace it. I am thinking I want to try a knife with the Emerson wave but unsure of which one. Budget doesn't really matter if it is $100 or $500 as long as the quality is there. This is for EDC. The sebe was fancy (damascus with wood grain) which was nice but not a requirement. My Hinderer xm18 small I keep in my go bag. Thinking maybe a little bigger but since it is an edc in khakis and jeans not too big. :-)

any suggestions?

well big is relative. you could get a CQC 8 ~4" blade or a CQC 7 3.3 inch blade. commander ~4" CQC 15 ~4". there are a lot of choices.

i have a cqc-8 and love it! its an awesome knife, it rides very well in the pocket...its my favorite blade shape from emerson. Oh and the ergos on it are awesome:thumbup:

CQC-7 IMO its the workhorse of the line and has some of the best ergos with one of the least intimidating looks, while still retaining the 'wave feature'.

The Spyderco Delica is a similar size to the Small Sebenza and you can get one with the Emerson Wave feature for a good price right now. I have more experience with Spydies than Emersons, but the Wave on Spydies (as licensed from Mr. Emerson) actually seems to work a little better.

If you go Emerson, the CQC-7 is one of the smaller ones, but they mostly have tanto points, which may or may not be of concern to you. I've had my eye on getting an A-100 for a while. Pay attention when you order 'cause it seems like many Emersons come in a waved and non-waved version.

i have a delica and an a-100 and they dont compare at all. the only knife ive owned that is some what close is a spyderco sage ii titanium or a benchmade mini skirmish

My CQC15 has been EDC for about a year and a half and it is a real work horse. The tanto tip for penetration, the Commander belly for smooth slicing and the serrations for sawing pretty much cover all bases.
It has the wave feature, which really does work as advertised.
The ergonomics of the handle are about as good as it gets.
I carry mine horizontally on the left side on my belt in a gunmate pouch for cross-draw deployment with my right hand. The wave can snap the blade open with authority when called upon, though around knife-a-phobes subtle and silent can be preferable.
If the full sized 15 seems a bit much Emerson now offers a mini 15 with the same features.
Any Emerson is a good choice.
Buy and enjoy.

If you can find a CQC-12 buy it. As of right now they're almost literally impossible to find. I'm sure most members here can agree the CQC-12 is Emerson's best knife. If you can't find it settle with a CQC-8.

Just get a spyderco endura 4 G-10 and put a zip tie on that bitch. You'll be shanking people in no time

While another Sebenza is always in the picture I am leaning towards the CQC-15 or mini 15 right now. Wish I could see a side by side photo of the two to decide which.

Thanks for all the thoughts, and Rat 1, the 12 is in stock at knivestown right now but I will pass...a little large for pocket carry (for me anyway).

I would forgo Emerson and get a Spyderco Endura or Delica with the wave feature.

I'd say... get a 10 and send it to Tom Krein for a nice regrind, to make it a good slicer.

Any Emerson is great. I usually circulate between a Super and normal CQC7b that were converted to Ti framelock by Reese Weiland. I can always cut a wave into a normal knife for you as well. Today I'm carrying a ZT300 that has been waved and the assisted opener has been disabled.

Yup, that.
