Im looking for a 'gentlemans' locking folder. Something small and nonthreatening (so I can carry it in airports, at school, around sheeple, etc.) My requirements are: blade under 3", one hand open, locking, plain blade.

I am looking at the Calypso Jr and the Delica and I just wanted to see if there were any other recomendations.

Even the small Sebenza comes in under the 3" blade length limit. William Henry is a good choice here as well as has been mentioned. You might also want to consider the Spyderco Wegner Jr.

Definitely can't go wrong with a William Henry Lancet. I'd also suggest taking a look at the Spyderco Centofante Jr.; very much a "gentleman's" knife.

I'd stay away from the Delica, for your purposes. The huge hole hump makes the blade look bigger than it is, and could frighten some.

For an economical choice I'd go with the CRKT small Point Guard (it's what I carry at the office). I think Gigand may make some models in that size range, check 1SKS.com for their selection. If you want to go a little upscale, Delta-Z makes some really good looking folders with wood and bone scales. Check out their website.

One of Klotzli's smaller folders. Preferably a Michael Walker design. Very slim, Very well made.

An excellent choice over $130 is the William Henry Carbon Fiber Lancet. For less than $70 I like the Spyderco Calypso Jr. Lightweight. These don't seem too threatening. I carry a William Henry Pearl Lancet with diamond bolster. It looks so much like a piece of art, it never bothers the sheeples.

A note on carrying knives in school. If you live in California and attend any K-12 school, any locking blade, irregardless of size, can result in disciplinary action. A teacher at my High School last year saw a student show another student a leatherman (this particular leatherman had a locking blade). The Vice Principal who received the disciplinary referral was required to file a mandatory expulsion recommendation because of our district's Board of Education policy. That was the 4th student that year expelled from our school district because of a locking blade.

Fortunately as an administrator I am permitted by ed. code to carry a knife if it is used in the performance of my duties. I am still very careful about when and where I use it (at a potluck or opening boxes).

Josh,
my advice is to get a Spyderco Standard from the guys at Smokey Mountain Knifeworks ($43.00?)these are discontinued now but SMK still have some and at that price they are hard to beat (you can pay up to $75 elsewhere). Since getting one it has become my daily carry and it has never raised any eyebrows, I mostly work in an office environment.

I guess I should clarify a little bit. When I say I want a 'gents' knife I dont mean that I want some fancy pretty knife. This knife will be a daily carry use for everything kind of knife. I just want a modest knife that wont draw too much attention.

Some of the BM's and CRKT's that you guys mentioned may fit the bill very well. Thanks for all the help.

The small Sebenza has a 2 7/8" blade, yet is still easy to open. Same with the BM 705.

As for making the sheeple happy, I think if you carried a bright (yet small) pink plastic picnic knife, with big letters that read, "Danger, I am a knife, being around me may result in sudden paroxysms or death." Along with a set of business-card-sized disclaimers that state you will not sue them if they should see you cut yourself. That should do. Oh, but you might need a free video tape, too, justifying why you would ever need to cut anything in the first place. People rarely seem to connect "what might happen in the future" with "the way things are right now."

Benchmade has an elegant little folder with rainbow anodized titanium bolsters & white micarta scales (looks like ivory).
Its a very classy looking little knife that looks like something james bond would carry while wearing his tux

I forget what its called but its one of Benchmades custom collaborations. Could someone help me out with the model number or name of this knife?
