Recomendations? (gents under 3" one hand open)

That's the BM850 with anodized titanium bolster and ivory micarta. Real nice. It's a collaboration with Mel Pardue. Although it's kinda expensive, you could opt for the BM330, BM855 or BM856 instead.

Josh Wilson - If "so I can carry it in airports" means go throug the metal detector. . .I think it's another story.

In this case I experienced only normal size SAK, Spyderco Cricket. Spyderco Mouse would also do.

There are a lot of choices in this category at the moment, so you're spoilt for choice. Assuming you're looking for a production folder, these are the ones I'd buy if I was looking for a gent's folder (ordered by price):

BM330 Mel Pardue @ $65
Blade 2.3" ATS34, weighs only 1.4 ounces. The handle is a little wierd but its a great little knife. The pictures on the web don't show how tiny it really is.

BM855 / BM856 Pardue @ $65
Blade 2.8" ATS34. Aluminium (855) or G10 (856) handles. Good working knives. If you want something larger than the BM330, try this one.

BM850 Mel Pardue @ $150
Blade 2.75" ATS34. Terrific looking knife with anodized titanium bolsters and ivory micarta scales.

William Henry T10 Lancet @ $220
Available with either fishtail oak or amber jigged bone. Carbon fibre version with no bolsters costs about about $30 less. If money is no objection, this is THE production gent's folder to get. I have sworn to get one myself ever since I saw one.

I don't really consider the Umfaan and small Sebenza as production knives as their cost ($300) approach custom knives. They are beautiful looking and great handling knives by the way and fully the equal of many customs. I've a small sebenza and never regreted the buy (even when i had to busk for quarters at the rail station

Of course if you had just struck the lottery or something there's always Kaj Embretsen's damascus masterpieces which start at over $1000...

You might want to check out the Cold Steel Small Voyager it is under thre inches and very sturdy knife for the price. Also like mentioned the Spyderco Rookie or the Standard very nice knife also. The Buck Odyssey is also a good one all these knives will not set you back in the cost department.

Gents....under 3".....one hand open....

That's EASY!

Go here> http://www.knifeart.com/nomad2.html and look at this baby. It is on my Xmas list this year, and I vowed that if it isn't under the tree this time, I am selling my boy for Animal-Free Testing science and getting it.

Oh, and while you are there, sign up to win the Carbon Fiber Lancet in their drawing.

Some of you guys have expensive tastes. I think I would be afraid to use a $1700 Nomad2.

Santi, I won't try to sneak it through a metal detector at the airport. I will get a knife that a security guard won't have a problem with (hence no serrations, 3" blade and 'nice' looking)

I put the Spyderco small Centofante in my pocket every day. I think this knife is just about an ideal daily carry knife. Its back-up secure lock makes it very very strong for its size. No worries about liner lock failure. Blade length is 2 7/8 inch, so it should be OK at airports. But the very pointy Wharncliffe style blade does seem to alarm some folks, so I generally put it into checked baggage at the airport. I also carry a BM850 Mel Pardue from time to time, but it may be too pretty for your needs. On the other hand, sheeple love it.
