I'm a virgin as it relates to a fixed-blade knife and I want my cherry popped. I'm interested in a small/EDC fixed blade knife that can be used/abused. Have at it. I appreciate any recommendations.

I like a few, but only have this pic handy. W.T. Wright. "The Patriot"

Here's one for size reference.

ESEE Izula 2.

He is posting his question in the Traditional Section - so I suspect that he also wants a recommendation on a traditional knife. The Izula 2 is not traditional knife, not at all.

But back to your question: I would recommend a Mora Classic as a beater knife. Red painted wood handles, carbon steel blade and a scandi grind for the ease of sharpening. A beater for sure.
But a Buck 120 might also come in mind, for example. But a much higher cost than a 12 $ Mora.

I'm also going to recommend the LT Wright Patriot...and mine also has that same bone handle.
My picture, for size reference, though, is of an ironwood handled Patriot alongside a (then) newly GEC 15.

It you are going to abuse it, perhaps some tool other than a knife would be better suited for your purposes.

Traditional wasn't specified. Off to General Knife Discussion.

I'd go with an Izula also. I have several and my Izula II with TKC scales is an incredible knife.

Ka-bar Becker bk14 w/ the additional grivory scale accessory. Best value great knife.

Although traditional wasn't specified, I'd have to second any of the smaller lt wright knives. For being so beautiful, the smaller knives they produce are stout and I wouldn't hesitate to use them for hard use. Now, that's somethin I don't say about many fixed blades edc size, and I mean it. Otherwise, the izula is another knife that fits the need perfectly, and it just feels like a "beater", especially if you strip the coating and it develops patina. Really every edc sized knife that's 1/8 can be used for anything you'd have to use it for, it then depends on your style preferences and what is comf or rable. For a neck knife, I would go izula 2. For a pocket or sheath knife, I'd go with lt wright, or if you wanted something more utilitarian I'd look at survive! Knives. They are an amazing value and are indestructable.

A.G. Russell Woodswalker with leather hip pocket sheath. Under $25.

I've been saying this a lot lately, but with good reason.

Throw another one out there, neck knives by Dwayne Childress. Or a Wilder forge neck knife, in 52100. Also as mentioned already, Mora to try it out cannot beat price and quality.

Pick a Mora and give it a try. They are well made and affordable, but I wouldn't consider them beaters. They will last through years and years if properly used.

How small is small? What size can you carry every day? What's the budget?

LTW is really nice stuff, but if the budget is $50 then that's not going to work.

I EDC my Izula 2 and love it. It's tough as nails.

I EDC a Fiddleback 2 Finger Karda. It's perfect for all your EDC needs and looks nice. Something comparable would be the production run RUNT. It would be a good choice with less maintenance since it is S35VN steel.

Don't see how you could destroy an Izula or II or the beckers mentioned, Ka-Bar BK24 too! The thickness of these little blades is probably overkill! Also, from what I read the warranty on the ESEE Izulas is unmatched!
