Can anyone recommend a sturdy Benchmade folder, under 4" plain edged blade, one handed opener not able to be waved or flicked open with good edge retention?

one handed opener not able to be waved or flicked open

As far as i can tell every benchmade can be flicked open... Ive owned a dozen models and they were all able to be opened that way.. Unless you tighten the pivot....?

Thanks for the recs. I'm kinda liking the 530 Pardue, but does anyone know if the blade can be dropped (aka be considered a gravity knife)? One major criteria is that it be a one handed opened. but the blade not able to flick out either from the handle, or by grabbing the blade and flicking the handle out...)

Ive owned the pardue also... And they all can be flicked... and gravity dropped... however if you tighten the pivot the axis lock keeps the blade pretty snug in the handle..... I just flicked and gravity dropped my grip 551 ( and i keep the pivot a little extra snug)... which is not built much different than the others... Maybe you need a knife with a lock to keep it shut like a kershaw leek... or a lockback like a 110 which is hard to flick or gravity drop....

Buy a BM Resistor if you can track one down.
One of THE most solid knives I've ever beheld, and it looks cool too.
Axis lock holds it in the closed position better than most Axis locks, and with a slight pivot tightening, good luck flicking it.

Mini Skirmish. Best knife BM makes with a blade under 4 inches. Would probably meet your criteria of not "flicking" open since it's held closed with the monolock bearing detent. Like trimcut said though, all benchmades will be able to be flicked open with a little wrist action.

Any axis lock I've ever encountered can be flicked, from either position you mention. You can try to tighten the pivot to limit that but then you're making the one-handed opening a lot harder than it needs to be. Realistically, you are going to have a tough time balancing convenient one hand opening with something that's really tight in the closed position unless you get a knife with a strong backlock.

From the conditions you're presenting, is it fair to guess you're in New York City?

Hm, yes, this is what I feared. Yes, I am currently located in New York City. So pretty much any Benchmade can also be flicked open?

I have tightened the pivots on some of my Spydercos so that they cannot be dropped or flicked, but opening them one handed is really hard!!

It's not a benchmade, but SOG's Trident folder(as well as others) has a separate lock on it.This would make it impossible to "flick" or even open, without disengaging the lock.A few other companies have this feature also.CRKT comes to mind.I can't think of the rest.Just keep the lock engaged at all times.

As far as BM's go under 4"...I'd go for the 930,940 or 950.They can all be flicked open easily though.

I would go for the Vex if you wanna spend a little or the Skirmish if you willing to spend a little more. These models are some of the closest your gonna get to what you want from Benchmade.

Skirmish is too big.
If you keep things in your pocket, no ones gonna bust your balls, but good luck if they find it on a bad day
