Recommend a Benchmade?

Skirmish is too big.
If you keep things in your pocket, no ones gonna bust your balls, but good luck if they find it on a bad day

any knife is too big for some people and any knife is gonna be bad for you if you get caught by a cop having a bad day.:( just the way of the US

What I meant is Skirmish is too big legally in NYC. Can't even talk out/bend rules outta that one

Ok - based on limited skil on my part - I can gravity lock open my 14205 once in a while - for some reason I can't do this with my 14200/ Bolsters in the way?? 14200 is a truelly excellent knife - try one out and see if it might meet your requirments ( or more importantatly (spl much) - local LE's opinion of this function) . To be honest - have never spent much time flicking knives -seems like it might accelerate wear and more importantly don't see the need? Of course - the "he was waving around a knife so i shot him" thing also makes this un-attractive for me.

I just bought and received a Benchmade Vex. It is an excellent knife and worth the money. Also the blade is 3 1/3 inches long so your good. I to live in NYC (Queens).

I'm thinking of a Buguszewski mini spike, the 640...do any of you guys know the specs on this piece? I'm not able to pull up any info online on things like blade length, the kind of lock, etc...

Benchmade Knives 670 Apparition, very classy looking as well

Knife Specs:
Blade Length: 3.4 inches
Open Length: 7.82 inches
Closed Length: 4.39 inches
Weight: 4.5 ounces

If flicking is a major concern, you are probably going to need a back lock knife. Just about any Axis or liner can be flicked, if not by everyone, almost certainly by someone who knows how to do it and is motivated. The Axis in particular are easy to flick. Spyderco has lots of nice back lock knives. Sorry, that's not a Benchmade recommendation, but that is where I would be looking.

You can't go wrong with any of the Grips, 710, Mini-Rukus, or Mini-Skirmish.

About the NYC LEO thing, just carry deep pocket and you should be ok.

Man, if this "flicking open" legal problem is such a big deal, the knifemakers ought to start marketing "Big Apple" models. Focus a couple of good knifemakers on the problem of making a knife not flickable, but still opened without heroic effort.

And if anyone actually takes my advice, I promise my royalty demands will be reasonable.

See, that's where RJ Martin's Zing comes in. His detent is SOLID...very VERY VERY VERY hard, if possible to flick open. Still smooth as silk once it does. The flipper may cause probs though

If you want to stick with Benchmade, the Pika is a good route to go. It has a lock back and a very light handle, so holding the blade and trying to flick it open would be next to impossible. In this case, you won't have a heavy handle going against you, so holding the blade and flicking it open ain't gonna happen. The only complaint that you could have about this knife is that the blade is stamped "taiwan," but other than that it is a great knife from Benchmade.

Great design, IMO, a classic Benchmade. It's a liner lock, blade length is 3.5 inches. On mine, it's a just a lot easier to have the pivot looser and flick it with the thumb than to keep it tighter and the action slower. Probably not what you wanted to hear, I know.
