Any style trapper/sod buster/ stockman etc. Linen micarta, Canvas micarta, G10, even carbon fiber scales and 440c or newer/ better Stainless blades. Something NOT made in China... I can't seem to find any without going the custom route.

The cold steel lucky one is interesting. I just was wondering if there were any others that were in other classic designs using modern materials.

Thanks for any input for compiling my list!!

Cold Steel has the Ranch Boss, a 4 1/4 inch-closed stockman pattern with CPM S35VN blade steel. We think it's made for them by Queen, as it is very similar in pattern to their Cattle King. It's pricey.

Or you could buy a Queen cattle king or one of their other patterns in D2. D2 isn't exactly stainless, but it's not carbon steel, either.

I've been pleased with this CASE Slimline Trapper in G-10. It's really tough gear but has its own attractiveness. It comes in their stainless which I think is quite sufficient for an average pocket-knife. By modern stainless, I suppose you mean some manner of 'super steel'?

Awesome suggestions so far! I like the traditional styles, but in durable scales. Admittedly, something with modern super steel would be icing on the cake, but really, something like bucks 420 steel would be fine by me, so maybe I should just say stainless blades.

Yes, it's going to be very tricky to find anything non custom in a super steel.

GEC has released some patterns in micarta and possibly very few in their 440c (which is really nice steel) but locating them is going to be probably a lengthy business.

Queen Cutlery makes D2 blades and not so long ago they made a Sodbuster and a lock back Sodbuster in Green Micarta.

Moki Japan might have something of interest, magnificent fit&finish that's a fact!

Knarfeng-I thought that I'd read, on the net so..., that the Cold Steel stockman was an oem or sfo, from Canal Street, one of their last? I could sure be wrong, and I'm not disputing you, I was just curious as to what recent information has come up.
Thanks, Neal

The cold Steel stockman looks like a queen cattle king to me, does not share the rounded lines of canal streets stockman.

You could throw up a WTB ad for a Canal Street Cutlery - they used some G10 and higher alloy blade steels.

You could be right. But it does not look like anything Canal Street ever made. They would have had to develop all new tooling.

It looks enough like a Cattle King that I'd bet it was made on that tooling. And of all the traditional cutlers, I'm only aware of Queen who has dabbled in PM alloys on a semi-regular basis. Canal Street never did.

I think GEC made one small batch of S60V knives for Derrick at Knives Ship Free. But I'm only aware of that one batch, done before they documented their production on their web site as they do now. I think that if GEC had made these for Cold Steel we'd have heard about it.

Sticky, you might want to consider the Finnish made Enzo PK70 in green canvas micarta with the CPM S30V blade. It's a slipjoint with scandi ground blade.

I'm pretty sure DLT Trading are a BF supporter so I'll post a link for you (apologies if i'm mistaken and please delete this, mods).

I don't have any of their folders, but if they're anything like their fixed blades, they're top of the line in materials, craftsmanship and design. I love my O1 Trapper, superb knife, use it all the time.

Would you consider aluminum a modern material? If so, the Falkniven LTC is an attractive slip joint with 3G steel.

Ummm... It's a pretty mundane suggestion, but since you like Buck 420HC, and you want "modern materials", you might look at a Buck 301, 302, 303, 305, or 309. Those models are made in Idaho. They have Valox covers. Valox is a modern thermoplastic and is pretty much indestructible. And it's actually a newer material than carbon fiber, Micarta, or G10.

I have a goodly number of knives. I still frequently carry a Buck 300 series.

Canal Street Cutlery made a "Pinch" and "Pinch Air" with 440C steel and micarta covers. They are no longer in business. Not sure if there are any still available from dealers or if you'd have to search the secondary market for them.

Also there was a limited run in 2014 of the Buck 301 with BG-42 steel and ivory micarta covers. It would take some looking to find one on the secondary market but they turn up in unused condition.

Another one to consider is the A. G. Russell Premium Scout. Black Micarta covers with a Spear blade of 154CM. Made by Camillus I believe. Discontinued but a fine knife that might be worth the hunt.

I carry a 303 cadet a lot. It's my toss it in the pocket with keys and change knife. After a week the bolsters looked satin and and scales look new. Great dependable inexpensive everyday knife that holds a great edge and sharpens readily.

Have you looked into the Moki Fish Owl? It's been on my "want' list for a very long time - AUS 8 shadow pattern, allegedly with incredible F&F. It's right up my alley but it does seem a bit steep for the materials....
