Recommend a good everyday folder

I would second the rift. Although I don't personally own one my close friend does and I have messed around with it plenty. The 154cm blade will be great for your tasks and the open back design will be easy to clean after field dressing. I have the rukus you mentioned and I love it. If you could find a good deal on one it could be a great choice.

So what's up with the Rukus? It was right at the top of the list until I started trying to find one! Why discontinue it? Too big for edc or something?

I guess Benchmade wanted to try new things. IMHO it almost seems as if they replaced the rukus with the rift. Both are tactical folders which look interesting and original, and feature some great material.

I would say a benchmade bone collector folder. but for me the d2 is rough to sharpen. They are built like tanks though

How about a Benchmade 710, D2 tool steel with a longer usable cutting edge than the Spyderco Military and the convenience and strength of an axis lock. A real winner! :)

well i think a Kershaw CB Junkyard Dog II would be a good fit, if you convert it to tip up carry it seems to hide well in the pocket and really isnt that constrictive of hand movement, the large belly on the blade looks like it would be handy for skinning and hunting in general. and has enough of a tip to help cut the bands in the shop.

Thanks for all the help; I ended up getting a Lone Wolf Cheyenne, which I found on a closeout sale for $80. It's the right size and blade shape (looks a bit like the BM 710), good steel, and I've always liked the knives I've seen by them. I did quite a bit of looking at the ZT knives that were recommended, though, and they do look really nice. I may try one someday. Can't ever have enough knives. Thanks.

Im sure it will serve as a great companion for years to come. :)

i had a hogue and while it didn't fit my hand quite right [i'm picky in that area, my sebenza doesn't quite hit the spot either at least without gloves] the quality was phenomenal. far better than any benchmade i've handled, and i'm a benchmade fan

before i got on my semi-custom kick i really liked the m390 tsek [have a preorder for the m390 afck too] and as for in the $150 range, my marlowe design 53 was phenomenal. bali's aren't often considered good work knives, but the shape of the blade, ffg, d2 etc... made it so. plus the lock will never fail! great knife.

The Cheyenne came today, and it's a really nice knife. Perfect size for edc, great finish. It wasn't on my list until I saw the sale, but I'm glad I got it. Thanks for all the other ideas; ya'll named several knives that I had not thought of but definitely want to try in the future, like the ZT and the Hogue. Thanks again.

Another vote for the Buck Vantage. Avid or Pro would do you nicely, and they look sexy.
