I collect traditional folders and fixed blades and always generally hated how aggressive, tacticool, just plain ugly or thoughtless most modern knives look. Lately though some modern folders have really been catching my eye. It started with the basic large Sebenza and I noticed a similar design quality ("aesthetic") in a few others....

Top to bottom: Sebenza, Artisan Sirius, Quietcarry Waypoint, Grigorev Iceberg (amazing custom in the sales section)

I guess I am really drawn to this kinda space-agey yet sterile look. Things that look like they belong on the tray at the dentist's office 😀. Is there a name for this type of design (other than "minimalist", which seems way over-applied)? I really want to pick something like this up as my first modern, good quality carry knife. I'm not sold on any particular model just yet.

Generally speaking, I think I prefer titanium, no inlays, framelock, 4+ inch body, smooth over quick action, traditional blade shape, no flippers sticking out, no curve to the overall shape, budget around $500 max. But really I would like to see anything that you think participates in this visual style. I'm brand new to this world so I'm thinking there are many more...

A full titanium Cheburkov Strizh is one to look at. I have the full carbon fiber version.

You should try the sebenza because if you decided you dont like it you can sell it for about what you paid for it. Plus there very smooth. The Inkosi is probably smoother though.

Thanks for all the ideas so far.

Futuristic?
This is more what I avoid... the scary, alien, aggressive look I see everywhere!

Really like this one, although similar to the Waypoint it is liner lock, which there is nothing wrong with functionally but seems a bit less elegant to me.

Yeah good point, I have been lurking the Sebenza sales forum here lately. What's stopped me is that visually they aren't quite as interesting as some others... still very cool and a 9/10 though. I'm sure I will have Sebenza regret syndrome if I go with something else 😕.

JK Knives Integra

Very smooth, slim flipper made with top notch materials. Sculpted titanium frame and clip is gorgeous. The flipper tab completely disappears when blade is open. Super “clean” custom from this Polish maker at a Sebenza price
I love the look of this one... the beveled edges (like the Iceberg I posted) are a great design element. Going to look into these more when I can.

Monterey Bay Knives Sea Otter

It fits rather perfectly in the photo array above and is $400. Sold on drops and can be tough to acquire though.

Apologies for no picture.

I do really like the Ray Laconico designs I've seen (like the Sirius above) but yeah it seems hard to get the highly desirable ones. The Sea Otter might be a little small for me but it does look fantastic.

I will keep posting pictures of stuff I find, to kind of make a decent archive for this style of knives.

Shiro NeOn zero?
I looked into these and actually found the Quantum most to my liking. This one is just a bit cyberpunk I think 😀

Roberto Ottonello's Gravity Knife perhaps?
A little different aesthetically but fits the bill. It just brought a smile to my face watching a guy on youtube deploy this one. Never seen anything like it. Not sure it would be the best EDC but definitely cool.

Couple others I found lately:

Null Knives Raiden... a bit aggressive but within reason

MBK something or other... more cool Laconico stuff.

Still haven't made up my mind on anything. If the Grigorev Iceberg were a little less expensive I think it would be the winner so far..
