I used to carry a Sifu and liked it a lot, until the lock became unreliable. Now I EDC a Cuda Maxx 5.5" bowie. I just measured it and the blade is 5 3/8" so you're good to go in TX (I think they deliberately made it just under 5.5" specifically because of that TX law), that is, if you can find one. I've heard they're harder to come by now that Camillus is OOB, but worth it if you can find one somewhere.

The only other production company I know of doing megafolders is CS, which I think of as a step down in quality, and some of their prices are laughably high, though they've got some reasonably priced stuff too.

If I'm not mistaken, the Cuda Maxx was a Darrel Ralph knife. You could look at Darrel's customs--he offers some models with 5.5 inch blades. If you order a custom from him, I'm sure he'd be happy to decrease the blade length by 1/8 th inch or so to make sure it's legal. http://www.darrelralph.com/1mainframe.htm

It's hard to find an equivalent to the Sifu...but here's a few with a comparision shot:

Cold Steel's Voyager's aren't bad (the 5" versions) in plain edge. Another option which is also a Cold Steel is their new Rajah folder which seems pretty darn massive...oops, just noticed it's a 6" blade They do have the Espada, and the largest has a 5" blade...both are pretty spendy even for Cold Steel though.

I can vouch for the Ontario Hossom and the T3 Harsey...large, robust folders. TOPS Magnum is another stout folder despite the liner lock. Best option is probably the Benchmade Rukus...same lock as the Sifu and great utility blade design.

Like benchmades, (own a few) but they're a little small for what I'm looking for. Own a 710 which is positively dwarfed by the REKAT.

FWIW the cuda maxx is legal in TX, its not over 5.5". 5.5 is ok, 5.6 aint.

also the cuda maxx is 2X the knife a sifu is, the con is cammilus is outta biz so they will be hard to find and expensive when you do. why is it 2X the knife? because the maxx has a good lock while the sifu dont. also a lot thinner, i used to edc a sifu and maxx myself, really liked the sifu at 1st but too many lock probs for me.

another large folder is pat crawfords perfigo, also have one of those, a 4.5" blade IIRC, great knife too by the way.

the BM rukus is also a good one.

i dont carry anything over ~ 4" anymore myself.
