I don't own a fixed blade knife smaller than a USMC, KA-BAR. I have a lot of nice folders with about 4 inches plus or minus. Like, the Spyderco Police3 and Military. Benchmade 710, Griptilian and many more.

These folders all present a time loss in a self defense scenario. I'd rather that I never have use one but let's just say "what if."

I'd like to own a small fixed blade with finger protection, that I could draw like lightening, and not have to deploy the blade etc etc. in a tight pinch.

Do any of you guys have experience or pack something along these lines. I thought of a push knife but I'd rather have a more traditional fixed blade.

If so, how do you carry it? Meaning where do you strap the sheath etc.. All suggestions welcome. Thanks!

PS: I don't want to spend a ton of money either $100 plus or minus would be my limit.

If it is purely for self defense, less than $40 will get you a 5 1/2" double edged blade on a Cold Steel Peacekeeper II. Be aware that the opposite side of the blade is completely flat to facilitate boot carry.

Thanks A.P.F.,

I have a Cold Steel Peacekeeper I - BIG knife. I don't wear boots. I was looking for something to wear at waistband height. You say these new one are flat on one side ay?

I can't recall the brand, but back in my Harley riding years I had two double edge, spear point daggers with ivory handles in leather sheaths that clipped on the back - inside- my Levi's leaving only the handles exposed above the right and left rear pockets - very sweet!

They covered up with a denim or leather jacket perfectly.

I gave then away after I got married and settled my act down!

I live in a CCW state so carrying a small pistol is normal, but boy those blades come out fast and furious in a face to face confrontation, if you know how to use them.

I would prefer to punch and kick then spend the time producing a knife, I believe this method is faster, however i like fallknivens s-1.

I like the BM Snody 210TK, a kneck knife with a 2" blade. S30V steel, and carbon fiber and G10 scales. Very nice. I wear it around my kneck every day, without fail.

Thanks guys, I'll check your recommendations as soon as I log out.

winbag338: you have a good attitude but against a skilled escrimador like you run into in the Philippines and a lot of other places you'd never expect, your hands and feet would be cut to mincemeat.

Layers of defense: gun, rattan stick or telescopic baton, blade, then hands and feet. Believe it.

I know you said fixed but I believe you should also consider a Spyderco Endura/Wave or Emerson CQC with the patented Emerson Wave that opens on pocket draw. The Cold Steel Ti-Lite also has an open on draw feature. These are a lot less obtrusive and comfortable to carry. I often have a Waved Endura when wearing pull-up shorts. The Spyderco's are more for EDC and utility tasks - The heavier Emersons were designed with CQC in mind.

Hey man, check out either the Spyderco Streebeat or the Nimravus Cub I personally like the cub cause the handle is longer, but both FIT the bill......I carry horizontal crossdraw in the kydex sheaths I make. In this method you can get a nice cut on the draw. We use Keen edge practice blades, again in the sheaths I make. It's a great way to practice man.

What about the RATcutlery IZULA ? I love mine ... perfect size for concealed carry, I pack mine all the time w/no problems ;)

ZT have a dagger that might fit the bill.
Something like the Izula can always carried concealed and be quite effective for a small knife.
Also, don't disregard Spyderco, their Perrin fixed Street Beat is an amazing little fixed blade, and a superb self defense / Martial blade.

I definitely want the RAT Izula. I watch this guy on YouTube, and he trimmed the sheath down for a smoooth neck carry then he CHOPPED A 4 X 4 in half with it and shaved the hair right off of his arm!!! Unreal.

I checked the Spyderco Street Beater and it's pretty, but so expensive - so why spend that much?

I checked the Bechmade Nimravus Cub, and read negative reviews about it (just a couple) and trying to get it in G-10, 154CM steel and plain edge was nearly impossible and the price again was through the roof. My Benchmades never come really sharp out of the box either.

Where's the cheapest place to buy an IZULA kit, if anyone knows? I see them on eBay, but it's my experience that I find knives cheaper at oniine vendors than eBay sells them for.

Maybe in 2010 I'll add a couple of the knives mentioned above but the bank for knife spending is about broken and Christmas shopping starts Monday.

Thank you all very much!

I was keeping my eye on this thread and grabbed popcorn (not really), because these threads have a way of gravitating towards Izula, of which I am a fan. :D
