I was a member of this forum years ago and kind of fell out of touch don't even remember my old log-in. I bought several folders a few years ago based on reading this forum and have been happy with them so I thought I would stop by.

Anyway, I having been looking about on e-bay for a good quality small 3-4" blade fixed blade to take horseback riding and camping in the PA woods. I don't want anything to large since I don't want to alarm the other folks and I don't anticipate hunting with it. Just a good smaller fixed blade general purpose knife for riding and camping. I really like the idea of a vintage fixed blade - I don't think a little light use should hurt a quality knife so I don't mind if it has been sharpened or has a couple of minor scratches (it will probably get some more of both with me using it) - not sure why but I like the idea of carrying an vintage knife with me in the woods.

I see a ton of older Case, Buck, Ka-bar, Schrade, Western for sale. I also see a few Queens (which I think were made in PA) and some old Camillus. a couple new looking Lakotas. I also see a few foreign knifes from Scandinavia or the like. Not sure what would be best there are dozens to pick from. I would sure appreciate some brands and models that you folks would recommend - I don't want anything to exotic say $50 or less and about a 4" fixed blade (a good quality SS or carbon blade) - with some sort of nice bone, stag, wood, leather handle material.

Looking forward to seeing what you guys recommend!

I carry a CASE 316-ssp fixed blade in my hunting kit....circa 1965-1970....its the tested xx razor edge with stacked leather handle...what a great knife and a joy to use....very sharp!!....FES

There are a lot of the Case XX out there. I will go and take a look to see if I can find that model.

I don't know a lot about fix blades - which is why I thought I would ask - just a ton of makers I thought that the Buck, Queens, Schrades, OTs may have gotten a few votes. Thanks for your thoughts and I will check it out!
