Recommend a tactical fixed blade knife - sub $100

Yeah, everyone else I've whined to about this has thought I was acting a little crazy. The Bull Dozier is a very well balanced knife and feels really good in the hand. It actually looks and feels better and more rugged than any of the other KaBArs I own. It's more that I wasn't expecting to see "Made in Taiwan" stamped on it. I've been in the military for 10 years now and get a new KaBar each time I deploy (This makes 6). It's more a source of hometown pride to see Olean, NY stamped on the blade. It caught me a lot off guard to see something other than that on it...

I think I had seen somewhere that it is .200" at its thickest point. Which seems right, since it is one beefy blade.

I'm not so worried about being made overseas. The Fallkniven F1 is made in Japan. I doubt there is any quality difference between the two...

Are all SOG knives made in Taiwan?

No a good amout of them are made in Seki Japan which include the Sog Seal 2000, Tigershark, Seal Pup, and many more.

Sog Seal 2000, Seal Team Elite, Tigershark
Buck Nighthawk 650
Cold Steel UWK, OSS, Trail Master, Recon Scout, Peace Keeper
Fallkniven F1, S1
Kabar Fighter 1271, Next Generation Fighter, Classic USMC Kabar, Impact series

This one has an 8" blade which I think is a bit too long...

The blade is a little short on this one...

I'm not saying you're acting a little crazy. I, too, take great pride in supporting American companies that make great products right here in the USA. Nothing wrong with that at all! More and more knife companies are going to Taiwan (and China) for the manufature of their wares. It's saddens me, but it is a fact of life now. KaBar, however, still does make some really good knives right here. Those are the ones I'll buy.

P.S. Thank you for your faithful service to this great Country!

Great choice adg44! Enjoy it, and let us know all about it when you get it!

Couple of pictures might be nice, too!

Again, enjoy it!

Have fun with the knife.

Do post some pics when you get a chance. Maybe even write up a quick review

Is this a brand new knife? I haven't heard many people talk about it, only the Seal 2000. I think a 7" blade is overkill for my use, however.

For self defense, get a gun, or take a class on self defense before you buy a knife. Then you'll know exactly what you want.

Very good advice! You can use a gun from a lot farther away.

And, even a LITTLE gun is much more intimidating to most people than a BIG knife. So there's less chance that you'll actually have to use it.

Nice, but it looks like the first few inches of the spine are sharpened. That makes it illegal to carry where I live (Colorado). Others may want to check that out before buying.

Regards

True... can anyone who has that knife confirm this?

I forgot to order my Seal Pup Elite today... I'll do it tomorrow.

I placed my order on Friday from www.thebladeshop.com - they seem to have great prices, and they responded to my e-mail almost immediately.

I also ordered a pink Kershaw Chive for the lady, and a SOG Fusion Micron to put on my key chain. It was only $11 so I'm just curious to see how it is. I expect to be getting the knives sometime this week and I'll report back once I do.
