Recommend a USA made traditional Buck pocket knife

I've got a 301 made by Buck in their plant just a few years (1987) before this 303 - the 301 has brass liners, two springs, and flat grind, krinked blades. This 303 has brass liners but three springs. OH

Buck 303 as made by Buck in their plant. The design feature I like most about the newer Buck 303 (and 301) is each blade has it's own spring resulting in straight blades and less rubbing. OH

Great picture!

I am going to have to show this to my husband.

Thank you.

Please recommend a traditional slipjoint Buck pocket knife, USA made for everyday tasks. Please give me a model number so I can shop the used market. All the ones I find new at the stores are China made. Thanks.

Look around for a model 55. It's like a shrunken-down, pocketable version of the classic 110 Folding Hunter. A great pocketknife!

Everyone gave good advice. Even MN if you wanted a small lock blade. I have recently taken a spell and am carrying a Model 444, its so light you don't know it there. Sort of a 501 on a diet. But.......

Everyone has hit the nail on the head with the 301 and 303 but as is too common a case, American made ones are getting difficult to find for some as the big box stores carry the cheaper cost imported Bucks. But to answer all the questioners on this, Buck is still making at least two versions of each knife in Idaho. You may likely find one in a farm store or good hardware store out in countryside of Maryland but will have to go to a national chain hunting and fishing store if your in a bigger city. Several good online stores have them also, including Buck. Currently I believe they are offering a 40% off from the Buck Website. I do enjoy finding one in good shape at a flea market or pawn shop so have at it if that makes you feel good. Like Bert I am a 303 guy, mainly because it fits in a jeans watch pocket just a little better than a 301....But, a 301 is a good handful of knife to really cut stuff with . Good Luck. 300Bucks

PS As long as you looking for used Bucks, watch for a 307, which is a stout 3 blade slip-joint any mariner or cowboy would be proud to have. And its big enough you know its in your pocket.

I wish Buck would see fit to bring the 307 back into production. I do not think I would be the only ... "person" ... to buy one ... or two ... or three ...

Irishgrouch,

I like the no-nonsense, black delrin scales. Very practical and businesslike.

I bought a used one a couple years ago online. I absolutely love it.

I frequently carry my beloved 110 and I plan on carrying my 301 more often. I strongly recommend both. They're spectacular knives. Great choice, OP!

Knivesnknucks ,there's not to much you couldn't do with that set up.

I like the black Delrin. I wish they would bring back the yellow (red would be nice).

I really like the 303's... I collected vintage Case knives for quite a few years, and still really like them. The workmanship on the older ones was very good, and they had very nice bones scales. I was addicted to the red bone knives :D

My son got me this 303 for Christmas about 5 years ago, and I really like it. What I really like about it is, it has three springs, unlike most that only have two...
The extra spring gives the knife a little more width which I like, because I have big hands. The really cool thing about Bucks three spring design is that the blades lie straight when closed. No crinked blades.

My 303 also came with a nice little leather pocket sheath, which is a nice touch, but I've only used it a couple times. The only thing I don't like about my 303 is that the springs are very soft. It doesn't affect usage of the knife, I'm just use to the older Case knives which have stiffer springs and half-stops...
I also like the grind that Buck does on their blades.
