i'd like to get into knife making. can anyone recommend a kit with assisted opening - like spring assisted for example?

something similar to what Kershaw uses would be cool.
or is it easy to polish internals on most kits so they flip open easily?

thanks much!

I bought one at knifekits.com, the Mod1-A Assist. If you're looking for a high quality blade with top notch finish, look elsewhere. The only reason I bought one is to learn about how assisted opening blades work, and it does work for that.

As I understand it, Kershaw's assisted openers don't continue opening if you stop the blade while it's whipping open. The kit I mentioned is NOT like that, it will continue coming open after you remove whatever was stopping the blade from fully opening.

On a side note, I would suggest making a few fixed blades before jumping straight to folding blades. Folding blades can be very time consuming and frustrating to get working smoothly. I would suggest doing something like small fixed blade that you can carry with you first. There's tons of information in the stickies at the top of this forum that can help you with every aspect of making blades.
