AT&T is charging me 15+ cents a minute, and I know there are some less expensive - say 5 cents a minute - long distance services out there.

Any recommendations? (I use the cell when possible, some sometime I have to use the land line).

thanks

Ever think of getting one of those, say, Sprint phone cards? I used them for a while especially with my cell. I'd call Canada thru the 1/800 number on the card, for example, and get charged a nickel. .02 for domestic calls. In fact, bagged the cell and my wife and I both carry the cards now.

Edited to include: I forgot to add that we get COMCAST at home. As part of a tv cable (non-premium), internet and phone package, the phone comes out to about 35 bucks a month, unlimited calling to US and Canada anytime, anyday. I got all three on a year-long special and was pleased enuf with the service to continue it with the reasonable increase that came along. I think the special was all three services for $99 a month. Worth checking into if they can run a cable into your bunker!

I've got a $30 phone card I'll let you have for $10 . . . doesn't disguise your number, so it's no good to me.

Before getting a cell phone, we simply used an AT&T calling card from Sam's Club. Cost a fraction of using our regular long distance, something like 3c/minute.

I do not know if you have tried Vonage, when I had that a couple of years ago, it was a flat rate per month. Did not use it much, but I do not recall there being any long distance charges. I may be wrong, because my wife does a great job paying the bills, but worth checking out.

We have a good plan with Verizon Wireless and just use our cell phones for all long distance calls.

AT&T can do better than $0.15 per minute. I'd call a service rep. and discuss it with them. What fits your needs may have a monthly fee plus a per minute charge.
(I'm an ATT retiree so I am a bit biased toward them)
