New to this hobby, only have a Glock Model81 , a ceramic fruit knife(3") and a stainless steel fruit knife (4").

Any good EDC knives (preferably folders with clips to go into the pocket) that are not too expensive ?

I do some motorcycling daily so not sure if clips will hold it suecurely in place

A little more info would be helpful. Like a more specific price range, size of knife, intended use etc....

Without that I would still recommend the ontario rat 1&2. That covers large and small folders and the price is affordable. Very good starter knife.

Both the spyderco delica and benchmade mini-grip are great entry (but still very high quality) "beginner" knives. While being at the lower end of both companies offerings either will last you a lifetime and serve you very very well.

I'm going to recommend you generally look at Kershaw, Spyderco, Ontario, and Benchmade knives in your price range. Check out some options you like and that makes it easier to get feedback on specific models.

I tell all my friends new to the hobby or who want one edc, to start with a Spyderco. Endura, delica, dragonfly... All same basic knife design and pricing just different sizes and blade shapes. You can get into these awesome knives for around $50 . Spydercos warranty, customer service and sharpening (both out the box and to send in for resharpening ) are Top notch!

Ontario Rat 1 or 2, BRK Zancudo, SAK, Ontario Utilitac II, Kabar Dozier Folder, Spyderco Endura

I think that the Spyderco Tenacious is a good strating point. Not too expensive and you get a lot of bang for your buck!

If you're buying your first EDC knife, I'd also recommend a Victorinox SAK, specifically an alox model like the Pioneer. The tools are more robust and the blade is more substantial. It's a great knife, I carry one every day.

You didn't say what type of use you intend for your EDC. But in general, a Victorinox Swiss Army Knife (SAK) is a great choice. I suggest the 'Swiss Champ' model, it's got all the tools you would want from camping to first aid to general repairs to opening boxes. You can find them on eBay for $35-45 or Amazon around $50. Comes in black or red. Won't fall out of a pocket riding.

SAK's have the advantage of being really useful, lots of value for a low price, they hold a good edge and, as a bonus, it won't frighten the civilians when you pull it out.

After posting I see Sticktodrum and I were typing about SAKs at the same time. Great minds.

All the above are good choices , not mentioned though are Buck Vantage,CRKT M-16, anc Cold Steel Voyagers great carry knives and can be had for a good price so not a bad place to start.

IT seems that the consensus is AUS8 steel as blade material and some cr/V10 alloys thrown in as well.

I live in Taiwan ; havn't been carrying a knife around for as far as I remember and All I can is oogle at the prices on amazon/US web stores as the prices in my area is easily 2-3X the price (cept for the spyderco Spyderco Dragonfly , 2200NT = 73 USD)

I'm 28 , 5 foot 8 , average build, doesnt mess around, low key and above all a law abiding citizen , any more info needed?

As for prices in my area :

Ontario rat 1 OD handle (1690 NT = 56USD )
> Its half serrated , problems/pro/cons? or just get the straight edge version?

Ka-bar dozier (the mini is 5USD cheaper) (799NT = 26USD)

spyderco delica (2999NT = 99USD)

benchmade mini-grip NA

spyderco paramilitary 2 8600NT ...sticker shock

VICTORINOX Bunderswher 10 tool SAK (0.8461.MW4DE) ( 1400NT = 46USD)

Esee Ezula II NA

BRK Zancudo NA (GOD I LOVE THE DESIGN!! DARN! if it sells for 25 USD in my area I'd just buy it out of impulse)

ONTARIO - Joe Pardue - JPT-2BS Utilitac (8779) Joe Pardue (1450 NT = 49 USD )

Spyderco Tenacious ( 1950NT = 65USD)

Cold Steel Voyager Large Vaquero series Tanto blade (2030NT = 67USD )

Cold Steel Voyager Large 29TLC 4" (2010NT = 66USD )

Some more newbie question... difference between STRAIGHT and Serrated edges? (or a hybrid like the Ontario rat 1 OD handle ?)

Is a tanto edge any good in practical terms besides athestically intimidating (it looks...like a katana which is awesome :) )?

Whats a steal of a deal given I have compiled the prices here? :)
Or should i just grab the Ka-bar dozier and use it as a beater and see what i really need or don't need as its relatively cheap in my area?

Im newbie so im ALL ears!! :)

Kershaw volt 2/volt ss or the kershaw cryo 2 or thermite, all good knives and the 8cr13mov is actually holding up quite well on my volt 2. I edc it everyday and use it for everything. Blade steel get hyped up alot i find, i have s30v and 154cm knives and really i find at least kershaw's 8cr13mov hols it's own. Spyderco resilience/tenacious would also be great knives.
