Alright, I want to take a leap into the world of fixed blades.

Requirements:
~4.5-5" blade
Single, plain edge
Non-tanto
Full tang
Available in satin finish

Preferences:
Micarta scales
Lanyard hole
Nice sheath (Kydex or leather)

This will be for small outdoors tasks, I really like the BM 140, but I'd prefer Micarta scales and no coating.

Take a look at the Swamp Rat Bog Dog. It doesn't fit to your exact specs (rubber handle) and I don't know if it has a satin finish, but it certainly doesn't have a coating. Also, it doesn't come with a sheath so you can pick whatever kind you want!

Be sure and consider Bob Dozier in your search. If you go with Dozier, consider his "wilderness sheath". Extremely nice piece of work.

Check out bark river knife and tool, lots of models and lots of handle options from exotic wood to micarta to orange g10.

Either the SRKW Bog Dog HighTen mentioned or Fällkniven's F1: looks a little boring but it's tough and reliable.

How about a Busse Meaner Street? You pick the finish, handles, and get a custom sheath to go with her.

I have not been disappointed one bit by my Benchmade Nimravus. It's worth looking into, there are some good deals on eBay usually.

I am looking at Doziers right now, from what I have heard and read they are tough to beat for a quality outoors knife. I like the K-1, K-19 and K-21, and I will probably choose from among those 3 when I have the money

Hard to beat the ergos of Spyderco Fred Perrin. A unique, simple and functional design.

Another vote for Dozier mades. These blades are made to be carried and used. And made by those who are outdoorsman and hunters themselves. The choice of kydex sheaths that accompany each blde is simply superb. For more info go to their website and visit their forums on knife discussion.

I love the Dozier K-19, I don't know though, it's a $50 or so over my price range, but it really looks like a comfortable knife and the blade geometry looks absolutely beautiful. The Spydie/Perrin looks like a very functional knife as well. Decisions decisions!

I think my maximum purchase would be around $125, but that Fehrman peacemaker KILLS me

Wow!! that Fehrman is beautiful! Where can I find one and what's the steel used???

If you follow the F/S forums here and at other knife community sites, you will find several Dozier mades popping up for sale. Some at substantially reduced prices. Or visit www.agrussell.com

I have a Final Judgement and it rules! 3V steel. Strong as all Hell! Well worth the money (get one now, because when people start catching on, I don't think they'll be as inexpensive)!

Originally set to buy the Fehrman pictured above, but after some grueling decision making I went with a Bark River North Star. Should be in soon. Fehrman seemed just a touch too tactical for me right now and the Bark was $90 less.
