Hi there!

I am looking to purchase a fixed blade that will have these minimum qualifications:

(1) 5 to 5.5'' normal blade (with curving edge and flat backblade)
(2) easy to sharpen, (RC?)
(3) tough blade and non-slip handle
(4) to be used as a hunter's knife
(5) maximum price paid $450
(6) production or makers knife, as long as it can actually be used.

If possible, and if permitted by BladeForums.com, please iclude a hyperlink for source to buy from.

Thanks!

Best wishes,

Edalb

I am changing the blade size... minimum 3 3/4'' -- maximum 5''.

Thanks

Check out the RAT Cutlery RC-4; Phillip Patton makes very very nice custom knives. (got both on the way :jerkit:)

check out Entrek knives as well. Hand-made, 440C steel, canvas micarta scales, and kydex sheath for a very fair price. I use a Cobra model for a hunting knife and it has been outstanding!

Shadowkives is a great source for custom knives. Eddie makes some nice models that are real users. I'm not sure you can find a knife sharper than onee of his.

If you are looking for something really rugged check out Tanguaycustomknives. Scott makes a wide variety of blades that will age nicely with plenty of use.

Both links are in my signiture line.

Look around the makers forum, and find examples of knives that you like, then contact the maker and have see if they're willing to make you a knife. This way, you get exactly what you want and for the amount of money you're willing to spend, you can have a very solid user knife made for you.

This is what I decided to do, and now have 3 different knives being made for me. :o

On the other hand, there are a lot of nice production users out there. RAT RC4 comes to mind as a very nice user knife at a great price, and for what you're willing to spend, you can pick up something in INFI steel from Busse that will be virtually indestructible and very functional.

In that price range you can get 2 or 3 knives including handmade! You didn't specify stainless or not.

You said it so well! By the way, if you don't mind me asking, what customs do you have on order?

I've got one coming from Ray Laconico, one from Eddie at Shadow Knives, and another from Michael Clerc. Two for me, and one for my Father in Law for a gift. They're all users, and I can't wait to get them out and beat them up a little. :)

I should get the camp knife that Ray is making for me in the next couple of weeks!

You owe it to yourself to check Bark Rivers.

I checked them out at A. G. Russell's site. They do look good and I like the Canadian factor in them:thumbup:
They have smaller blades but there are a couple larger ones... what I am looking for.

Thanks,
Edalb

Thanks! But both sources don't seem to have anything available for sale.

I have (and use) the Fehrman blades. Any of his offerings are well worth the dinero. Of course, the fact that you are in Greece may make it easier to get a Mora 2000. Honestly, the Mora knives make adequate hunting tools and represent an amazing value for the price point. They are, in my estimation, fairly boring knives that scream utility and continue to function in their said role, time after time.

Bark River Sandstorm (original version) would be my pick under those conditions. The RC-4 meets all of your criteria and is half the price of the above one. Busse BATAC if you could find one.
