does walmart in canada sell knives?

Lenny, Getting into more carbon steel folders. I am not familiar with the Mooremaker in your post, nice looking knife. Where can you get them?

Does anyone know what type of carbon steel is uded on the Mooremakers? 1095, M-2, D-2 ect.?

John,
I called up Mooremaker directly.
After I purchased the knife, Dave Moore himself called me up and we chatted a bit.
Very nice gentleman and it seems like he sincerely wants to put quality products in people's hands.

i was in michigan today at meijers, they had a schrade 80t senior stocvkan for 19 bucks, i grabbed one. its awesome.

I was just shopping for a stockman today and read this thread. I also bought a Schrade Senior 80T! I had my choice of two and got the one with better fit but there is still a little lateral play on the blades, but nothing big. I will have to search the forums b/c I think I remember someone writing on how to fix lateral play. One thing for sure, this knife has a LONG sheepsfoot blade.

Thanks for the link, I'll try those steps too.
The main blade on my knife is stiffer than either the spey or sheepsfoot, with the spey being next and the sheepsfoot the least but it isn't terribly lazy or anything. The other one that I tried at the store was the same way. Fine with me, I'd rather it be a little stiff than too loose.
I took my dremel and ground down the kick on the sheepsfoot so it wouldn't stick up so far when closed. Now, the back edge is below the line of the main blade when closed.

What does "walk & talk" mean?

I usually have to carry mine because it just won't listen! Just joking!

I really don't know what "walk & talk" means.

Thanks,

Collecter

Collecter,

"Walk and talk" refers to the movement and feel of a blade as it's opened and closed on a slipjoint (non-locking folding knife that uses a backspring for tension). A slipjoint with good "walk and talk" opens and closes smoothly and also snaps open and closed. The snap serves to let you know that the blade is fully closed or open.

Hope that helps. Others can probably give a better definition.

*edited to correct spelling of Collector to Collecter.

APS:

If the blades in yours have lateral play, I would take it back. The way Schrade constructs their slipjoints, it can't be fixed, and will only get worse with use. JMHO

I got a Schrade middleman 34OT as a Christmas present, fit and finish are great, springs not as hard as I´ve found in other Schrades (I have about a dozen, most are Uncle Henry), no blade play at all, walks and talks fine, Delrin is darker in color than my other OT´s, this one came in a box.

I reprofiled all edges to 15/17 degrees double bevels. Tried to get a mustard patina but it only came out with a few dark spots, which I find strange since I´ve done it before and it worked better, I won´t worry about it and let it tarnish naturally.

Aaron,

Good buy on that 8OT.

Collecter,

As far as I know walk refers to how the blade rides on the spring as it opens or closes, it should be smooth, but also there is a point where you can let go and it will finish opening or closing by itself (so it walks), talk refers to the sound it makes when it snaps opened or closed (so it talks), a blade that won´t walk well is called lazy, a blade that won´t talk well is called dumb.

don im having a hard time getting a patina on my ot too!!!

right now im using lime, but i think im going to use some CLR

don, do you have any clr? this stuff blasts through making niiice patinas, im going to make a new thread on using it for patinas.

Calcium, Lime and Rust remover (found it on the web), I´ve never seen that stuff in Mexico, I´ll look around, I wonder what the chemical composition is.

Saw your thread on patinas, thanks.

look in hardwarwe stores, grocery stores etc. it also comes in a green spray bottle.

knifeaholic thanks for the info. Alas, I already banged the heck out of the bolsters with a hammer before I read the post. Nothing changed of course but the bolsters are a little scratched up now and I don't think that it will pass even Wally World's liberal return policy. Well, it's only $20 and the knife is still definately a good user.

aaron, good thread on the CLR. I got the BEST little-black-swirls patina on a schrade middleman that I used to have. The swirly pattern was neat to look at.

I think that I will resume my search for the perfect slipjoint under $50 with the best fit and walk/talk. It would be awesome if Victorinox would make a classic pattern 4" stockman with clip, sheepsfoot and pen blades of carbon steel. They have the best walk and talk of any folder for the price.
