Recommend me a new folder ($100 price limit)

Just came out Kershaw Lahar under $100 with g10 handles and vg10 blade.

There is pictures and reviews on the forum.

Great suggestions! These will allow me to narrow my search and research more efficiently, that way I'm not wasting my time with a knife or a blades that's not worth a flip. Thanks!

Any more?

What about the Kershaw Spec-Bump? I can get one for right at $100. If you had your choice between Lahar or a Spec-Bump, which would you choose?

I'm pretty interested in one of the Kershaws. From Kershaw I like these three.

Kershaw Junkyard Dog II - $52.95
Kershaw Lahar - $53.04
Kershaw Spec Bump - $104.95

The prices listed are the cheapest I could find online.

Which would you go with, and why?

I haven't really gotten to cut with a Junkyard Dog (just playing with a friend's), but ergonomically and feel-wise it is absolutely fantastic. At the moment is is really the only Kershaw folder that appeals to me.

Got an update here. After much research and many valuable recommendations from the Bladeforums.com members, I've made my purchase. I decided on the Kershaw Junkyard Dog II.

The four knives that I narrowed it down to before making my final decision where:

Kershaw JYDII
Kershaw Lahar
Benchmade 551 Griptilian
Benchmade 710

Ultimately I decided on the JYDII, as I couldn't pass up such a sweet deal for a knife that so many of you have highly recommended. For the money I don't think there is a better deal around. More importantly it had all the features that I was looking for when I set out looking for my next knife. Hopefully the JYDII will become my EDC for a good long while!

Thanks again!

You will have to tell us how it works out. I was going to jump in with a CS recon1 with the g-10 handles suggestion, but looks like you have made a purchase.

I was going to suggest against the CRKT (only owned two folders, but had lock failure on one, and the edge on the other is too thin, even whey I make the bevel more obtuse it still is not strong enough).

Not knowing what you're going to want to use a blade for,
it's difficult to make a suggestion.

The CRKTs you mention are just fine, but so, too, are the
Spydercos and the Benchmades. The Benchmades are good
solid cutters, but they're not great for self defense. The
Cold Steel Voyagers are very good, as are its Gunsite folders.

Your best deals are on eBay.

My own personal choice of knives? Probably the
CRKT 21-04. They have nice balance, a Lake and Walker
Knife Safety, an AUS8 blade and they open in a flash.

If you want just a great cutter and a good, all around
knife, get a Spyderco.

CRKT M21-04, a very sleek knife!

Spyderco S30v Native- $40 from wally-world
Benchmade 941
Benchmade 551 Griptilian

If given $100.00 for a good knife, I'd check around for a used Spyderco Manix or mini Manix. Though I don't carry one myself as my carry is task specific, I think this is the best compromise for an edc/sd tool at the price point you mention.

Matador-

I use my Mini Manix all the time, it is a great all-around knife. There is definitlely nothing "mini" about it.

I had the spyderco endura and karambit, and loved them both. Great feel, light, sharp, easy to sharpen, no blade play

I also had the CRKT M16-12LE, excellent knife for the price!

I'd recommend any of the above...

This one is slightly above the $100 mark, but not by much. I'm going to say give the ZT0200 a look. It has G-10, 154CM blade steel, and thick hardened steel liners. You can pick one up from NGK for $129. This is a most impressive knife from Kershaw for the price, and would still be a bargin at the $160 it is advertised for at some other dealers.

Most Spydercos and some Benchmade offer you a big choice.
Try something more for hunters? The Buck Alpha Hunter is not to be sniffed at, fast opener and a good lock, might be a bit of a heavy carry though. Take your time, the choice is plentiful.
