Recommendation? Recommend Me A Strop

That works.

The reality is that just about any relatively soft material works as a stropping medium. Lots of folks also use cardboard with or without compound. My dad's favorite strop was his old pair of jeans. A few strops up and down the pant leg worked just as well as anything. Miss you, Dad.
Oh man that takes me back. I used to use cardboard folded over and flitz polish when I first started.

I still use newspaper on the counter...and cardboard regularly. There's lots of way to skin a cat.

But the gear I got from NORTHWEST_KNIFE_GUY NORTHWEST_KNIFE_GUY is much more elegant and refined.

Previous to that, my best strop, (double sided), was one I got from Lee Valley Tools years ago. (And it's still quite serviceable.)

I use cardboard for my carbon steel knives when I'm not near my sharpening stuff to remove some rust from the edge. But for modern alloys I don't even bother until I get home.

I always considered my strops to be a consummable item so I tend to make my own. (gotta need a reason to fire up the power tools 😁)

Using a NORTHWEST_KNIFE_GUY NORTHWEST_KNIFE_GUY strop with black and green compound, coarse and fine, getting hair whittling is easily within reach.

I hope that NORTHWEST_KNIFE_GUY NORTHWEST_KNIFE_GUY knows I wasn't trying to take any sales away from him!!! As you said, there are lots of ways to skin a cat. My suggestions were simply options to a more "professional" tool.
Since he deals with "hides", I doubt he's that thin skinned. (Except for the 'roo skin.) 🥳

(Thank you, I'll be here all week...)

I like the JRE strop bat. Comes preloaded with black, green and blue compound with a plain leather side as well.

It’s probably not ideal, but it’s worked very well for me.

Yes, make your own. My current favorite strop material is shoe sole leather. Can be found on etsy. Firmest, densest leather available. Cut to size, glue to a piece of wood.

FFS, I’m cheap and lazy. Further proof of that is that I just purchased a Svord Peasant Mini Titanium. 😂

Plus, I wanted a work of art from NORTHWEST_KNIFE_GUY NORTHWEST_KNIFE_GUY .

I am definitely in the market for quality strop
I bought some on Amazon and they are very poor quality and where a terrible waste of money, maybe I am picky, but I like to wring my steels to maximum edge
