Recommend me a tank folder!

Can anybody tell me more about a lock bar insert for the 301?
I haven't seen a 301 with a lock bar insert. I did see one on a 801. Either way it would take some crazy maneuver to make the 301 lock bar fail. I think I'd be switching to a fixed blade or a monkey paw before I got that far.

As far as the SMF vs the 301 I believe the SMF wins the battle but is the difference worth the extra $200 or more?

I first heard and saw it on these forums awhile back. apparently the decision was made to add the lock bar after the 2014 catalogues had been made and finalized. A couple reviewers of the 301 on amazon said that they received a new model with the insert.

Any lockbar insert is to combat wear on the actual lockbar. The insert allows you to just change that piece if it begins wearing too far over. I wasn't aware 300's were shipping with them...

And yes, smf's are worth $200 more, in my case $350 more :) Better steel, opening hole, no recurve, choil and that flamed Ti is sexxxy

Though it seems to have been somewhat replaced by the Adamas, the benchmade presidio is still a very sturdy knife. If I had a strider or something like that I would probably reccomend it.

You make some good points. I am drawn to the Coyote Tan Cerakote model myself. I'm starting a money pile as I type:thumbup: Why not have both?

Nice! I just got a SMF PD-1 w/coyote g10

Bringing this thread back. Since it died, I've tried Striders, Emersons, every ZT under the sun, Military, Pohan Leu...... only ones left are the Military and the Bluephin. Great knives! Also, Kershaw Tilt, but I consider that a classy beast.

How about a SOG vulcan. The drop point has just a sexy curve to it. The San mai tanto version is awesome. I've had both ad regret getting rid of them. Just saw some last nite for sale on a site and kinda rekindled the want. Also the tomcat is the knife(IMO) that started the sexy overbuilt knife thing way back in 88.
DPX folders impressed the he'll out of me when I first got one. The T3 is a regular in my edc rotation. Spyderco sub hilt is a solid knife too.

Here's one that might fit your needs:
1065 steel blade of 3 inches
Assisted Opening
8 inch over-all length
has a glass breaker and seatbelt cutter.
Gold handle, black drop point semi-serrated blade. Has a pocket clip
Looks like a tank.
Made by "MilSpec"

Price is $9.85 with free shipping at amazon, or you may be able to find one at a truck stop for around $12 to $16

I have a MilSpec with a different handle style, I use it as a can opener.

FOR THE HATERS: He DID say he wanted "A TANK KNIFE" :)
