Hi all,
I'm headed to Japan for a vacation, and wanted to carry a small knife. It looks like the laws there require the blade to be non-locking and less than 6cm (2.3 inches). Any advice in the under $20-$200 range?

If you don't mind a friction folder I highly recommend you give an Ohta FK5 (2.25" blade) a shot. There are various handle material options, but here is an example from knifecenter:

I have a larger model (an FK7 I think) and I quite like it.

The Spyderco Pingo - listed at exactly 60mm (about 2.35") on Spyderco's website.

It's discontinued but is selling for about $100-$150 on the 2ndary market. If interested, look for one to be listed on the Exchange shortly.

For folding knives, the blade needs to be shorter than 8 cm (3.14 inch).
Locking is fine.
But you actually should not carry it because a few other laws and regulations prohibit carry of any harmful objects very vaguely.
I watched TV news the other day, and they say that a number of arrested visitors for unlawful carry of knives has been increasing lately.

If you still want to carry a knife in Japan, just do not take it out in the public at all.

A SAK seems to be the best option
If you want something really tiny just put a rambler on your keychain

The first photo shows my late Father's Buck Duet.
I've been getting into carrying it lately.
I wanted it to have my polished edge but didn't want to change his zero grind toothy edge so I bought a new one.

Here it is with the Buck Solo which is just a little bigger. Has nice modern G-10 scales. The two knives at the bottom of this photo.

My cousin was standing in line to board an aircraft when they stopped him because he had a Army P-38 can opener that I gave him that I carried in Vietnam.Good thing I was there saying goodbye. because he just passed it on to me. They told him to pitch it in the garbage or not board. I think they would frown on a knife.

The James Brand Elko fits your requirements.
