Recommend me an EDC food knife

But the OP already decided on, and purchased a knife...
When has that ever stopped us?? 😄

I’ll add this for posterity and anyone else who might be looking for a table/food folder.

I got this recently, ($17!) specifically as a non-threatening knife I could use in a restaurant and have used it to eat several times.

It’s made by MAM in Portugal. (I sanded off the stain and branding on the handle fyi):

Anything with a belly. I've pretty much use every folding knife I carry for food prep or eating

For fixed Blades maybe an esee Izula?

There are a ton of fixed blades that would do a good job. It mostly comes down to the size of knife you need for cutting food. Any skinning knife would be ideal for most jobs (Benchmade Hunt Saddle Mountain Skinner, Benchmade Altitude, Joker Nessmuk F, or Buck Kalinga) or general purpose flat/hollow grinds that don't have a thick blade, unless you're planning to baton your lunch (Grohmann No.1, Casstrom Safari, Morakniv Kansbol, or Buck 0119 Special).

I have some Joker knives and am always in awe when I examine them closely and then remember how much I paid for them. Such great quality knives for not much money. Was eyeing their Nessmuk a while ago, thanks for the reminder. A little bigger than I would want to carry everyday but looks like it would do very well in the kitchen

Some of my fixed blades that can easily be carried daily, except for maybe three of them. I wouldn’t be afraid to use any of these for unplanned food prep and all of them would be successful. Would they be great at it? Well, not really, some would be much better than others, but it is doable. I wouldn’t get too caught up in what’s best for edc and kitchen use, nor would I stress over it being a stainless steel. Just my opinion though.

Good that the OP found the knife he was after. One other suggestion is a Spyderco Mule. Just pick the steel, scales, and sheath and start cutting.

Joker produced a version of their Nessmuk with a flat grind, which is good. I was a bit put off by their original version, with a scandi grind, which I thought was a strange choice for a Nessmuk, but a lot of people seemed to really like it anyways. The flat grind version of the Joker Ember (Joker Ember F) is preferred by a lot of people too, over the regular scandi grind. It really just depends on intended use.

Why not one of those junk Facebook advertised Deejo things (or something like that). Food doesn't require any special edge or steel quality. Hell it doesn't even require a heat treat. So a Deejo (or whatever it is) that looks cool and can easily part poultry with minor pressure is more than enough. People seem to like them for some reason. I think they're junk personally. To each their always applies though.

My picks. Esse CR2.5 and Spyderco bow river. Kabar Dozier Phat Bob if you don’t mind a folder. 15EDFB10-8439-4786-83FC-FB12D0C3ECFE.jpeg03FC8850-27DF-4068-8F7A-0C0F1A2486ED.jpeg

Too late I guess, but for others looking similarly: pick a Kephart, specifically a CPK in AEBL. Nathan is still selling them. Don’t buy a knife that is too short, otherwise you can’t even cut a loaf of bread.

My EDC is a Buck 110 and it's perfect for me in the kitchen. I cut a lot of onions, peppers, carrots, celery, radishes, apples, potatoes, chicken, beef, etc. And it works great. The blade length is just right for me. They made a fixed blade model called a Buck 101 for a while but I carry the folder so that's what I use. Here is the 101 though.

Obviously I'd like to say look in the Maker's/for sale section Here....

But if you want production knives....?

LT Wright makes a line specific to this.

Traveller
Large Pouter
Small Pouter.

I have the Traveller. It's good.
You are probably leaning towards the Large Pouter size.

My Traveller is second from the right
Hey there,

What Knife is the one all the way on the left? The small one?

It's a neat little knife made from A2 tool steel. I'm at work now & cant quite remember it's name?
It was a collaboration between ESEE and LT.Wright.

Funny, I was just holding it the other day getting a feel for it compared to one of Mine....
