After several traditional knife purchases realized quickly that my modern folders are greatly outnumbered and I gotta even the ranks a bit ;) with something “tactical”

The 4 that mainly get pocket time are Hinderers and Hinderer designs so I’m wanting to try something else. Looking at a PM2 and Emerson CQC 8 Horseman I’ll add pictures of but not in love with either

Maybe you guys know something that’ll catch my eye :)

Wanting :
A DLC black blade mostly because I don’t have a knife with one
Blade 3.25+
Under $200

Still one more traditional on my list that I’m getting when I get paid this week (try to limit myself even with expendable income because I don’t want to end up with 5k in knives) but after it this will be next

Thanks as always guys

A nice blend of a traditional pattern with updated materials and construction is the Extrema Ratio Resolza. It can be had under $200 with a bit of effort

ZT0450 (awesome flipper), Cold Steel Recon 1, Swift 2
Spyderco PM also.

I'll second (or third) the ZT. I just bought the titanium version. Went into a shop to buy my first PM2 and walked out with my new favorite knife.

There you go !
Reminds me of my brand new Spyderco Pattada.

sXe "says not his kind of knife"
(he doesn't know does he) (what he's missing, how good knife life can get . . .etc.,)

sXe,
Long, narrow, round handles . . . that blade shape on the Extreama . . . good stuff man  :)

The Pm2 is good stuff to but in another way it is just another slab sided pocket dweller. I have a bunch of Pm2s so I must think they are "alright"
Sill . . . in the hand give me the slim round handled knife.

The ZT 0620 or 0630 combine a hindery feeling framelock with the excellent Emerson design patterns. I cannot recommend it enough.

Adding pictures.

Also not sure if you will like its style and the designer is sort of a tool but I love my DpX HEST 2.

The bottle opener doubles as a wave device. The knife is built by Lionsteel and the quality is great.

I have 2 questions. Do you find that the DPX waves easily out of the pocket or do you really have to dig into your pocket material to deploy the blade? Do you use the locking mechanism on the lock bar? Thanks

I would highly suggest a PM2. If you want an Emerson, get a ZT collab. I have not been at all impressed with actual Emerson's in nay way. ZT gives you better steel, a framelock, and smoother action IMO. But the PM2 is my recommendation.

It waves great. Not quite 100% as good as an Emerson wave but with a little practice it works great and reliably.

I never have a need to use the secondary rotolock but it does work very well as they intended. Also full disclosure the knife has abit of lock creep when I first got it meaning when the knife was locked open if I pushed in on the lockbar it would go in a tiny bit more. This has no negative effect on the lockup or anything and went away as soon as the lock wore in a tiny bit more this stopped.

Also the lock can be pushed in the direction of the stop pin a tiny bit but again this has no negative effect and is very common in framelocks. It even happens on very well built knives like the Chris Reeve Inkosi. Together with the lock creep it just means the lock was making some weird noises if I gripped the knife very hard until the lock wore in a tiny bit.

Also like many framelocks there is a little lock stick. It goes away after a little bit. Just don’t clean the black mark the titanium lockbar leaves on the tang of the knife as it helps eliminate lock stick. (Even at its worst lockstick was super minor) Also because of the lock stick sometimes when cutting into somethinf hard or forcing the blade further in the open direction when already locked open, you can hear the lock unsticking. Again this has no detriment to its lock functioning flawlessly and the knife locks up without any blade play in any direction.

Those are the worst part of the knife but I like to give full disclosure. The knife is an absolute steal for the price they sell it at and feels very well built and high quality.

It has a very Strideresque feel to it for a very good price. I absolutely love the knife.

PM2 > Horseman. I'm one of those people who aren't impressed with Emersons fit and finish for what you pay for them.

ZT is another great choice although many will stretch your budget.

Cold Steel Lawman is a great knife if you can get past the cheesy marketing (some people can't).

The DPX is a sweet looking knife like that blade shape it would be more appealing to me if it was larger the design just begs to be a 3.5”+ blade
