The DPX is a sweet looking knife like that blade shape it would be more appealing to me if it was larger the design just begs to be a 3.5”+ blade

Yeah I find it abit funny that my small Sebenza has a blade as big as my HEST. However at the same time the blade doesn’t feel too small and the knife isn’t a small knife overall. I think the 3 inch blade actually makes the knife a perfect size for edc. If it was any bigger it wouldn’t be as enjoyable to edc.

Also it feels remarkably light for a knife as thick and beefy as it is.

Here it is compared to some other well known knives you might be familliar with the size of. Manix 2 and Large Inkosi.

I’m going to try taking the knife apart and bending the lockbar in slightly more and see if that eliminates the minor lockbar making noises nuissance.

Other than that the knife is amazing and excellent in every way. I am very inpressed for the price.

It waves great. Not quite 100% as good as an Emerson wave but with a little practice it works great and reliably.

I never have a need to use the secondary rotolock but it does work very well as they intended. Also full disclosure the knife has abit of lock creep when I first got it meaning when the knife was locked open if I pushed in on the lockbar it would go in a tiny bit more. This has no negative effect on the lockup or anything and went away as soon as the lock wore in a tiny bit more this stopped.

Also the lock can be pushed in the direction of the stop pin a tiny bit but again this has no negative effect and is very common in framelocks. It even happens on very well built knives like the Chris Reeve Inkosi. Together with the lock creep it just means the lock was making some weird noises if I gripped the knife very hard until the lock wore in a tiny bit.

Also like many framelocks there is a little lock stick. It goes away after a little bit. Just don’t clean the black mark the titanium lockbar leaves on the tang of the knife as it helps eliminate lock stick. (Even at its worst lockstick was super minor) Also because of the lock stick sometimes when cutting into somethinf hard or forcing the blade further in the open direction when already locked open, you can hear the lock unsticking. Again this has no detriment to its lock functioning flawlessly and the knife locks up without any blade play in any direction.

Those are the worst part of the knife but I like to give full disclosure. The knife is an absolute steal for the price they sell it at and feels very well built and high quality.

It has a very Strideresque feel to it for a very good price. I absolutely love the knife.

Thank you for the response. I want to hold it and the lefty "HEAT" as well..

It's not that I am in love with either knife at this point especially with the rotolock that I'll never use on the HEST. But the either may be an option because I appreciate that they made a dedicated lefty knife.. And as a helpful act to Leftys everywhere, I'm going to post a thread about a good lefty "cutter".

I actually carry the righty only HEST in my left pocket. I carry all my waved knives set up for right hand carry but carry them in my left pocket. This way I can reverse wave the knife which I find puts the knife in a much better grip for using in a self defense scenario. (It puts it in reverse grip, then you just close your fist and it ends up reverse edge in)

Here is a pic of me reverse waving my pikal so you can see what it is if you didn’t know.

About the rotolock:

99.999% of the time I just consider it another version of the Hinderer lockbar stabilizer. So even if you never actually use it, it is not a useless feature. The ultra rare time I was doing something with the knife where I feared the lockbar could fail would maybe be a self defense scenario where I knew far ahead enough in time to activate it. But honestly even then I would much rather just run away if I had early warning.

Think I’ll go with ZT 0620. Tanto is not my favorite but $135 for Elmax Ti frame lock is good value plus I like the Emerson look and want a wave knife.

But if it sales out before I get one the Adamas is next even tho I’ll have to do some work to it it’s still ultra cool and a great knife from what I’ve found. Thought at first man $190 for D2 but that’s a good steel for the intended use I think and it’s HRC is 60-62 I think. Or could always fall back on the PM2

The 0620 is an outstanding knife and elmax is a great steel. You will assuredly love it. If you sharpen the blade in one motion rather than doing the two edges of the tanto seperately over time that secondary point will round out and it will lose its tantoness

Might send it to a professional and just do that. Almost impulse bought that new 0450 factory custom man it’s sweet but not $350 sweet

The ZT 0620/0630 is a great choice. The Adamas is nice too. Really any of the suggestions are good other than Emerson. I had a Horseman and loved the design. I really wanted to love the knife but it was simply not built well. After two weeks it developed lock rock. I sent it in for a warranty repair then sold it.

I'm not a tanto fan either but this turned into one of my favorite knives.

Idk that ZDP 450 is a pretty damn sweet knife. 350$ is abit steep but 280$ would be more than reasonable.
Feel the same. It’s a small knife the base model is $160 not really seeing that but it’s probably a fair price for the work and being a limited run. Some people are paying around $500. Would be all in on it if it was a 452.

Edit: on second thought. It’s about the size of my 3” XM-18 with 0.25 more blade with a jump in machining on the Ti and a custome Dimitri clip. Pretty large upgrade in steel worth every bit of $350 i think. Might jump on one

Thanks for the help. I really want to love Emerson like the philosophy love Ernie and the styling but the steel grind and quality issues I’ve heard of make it hard to buy one of their knives for near $200

Their framelocks are expensive on the secondary market and uncommon but if you come across one I cannot recommend it enough. If you ask me my HD7 framelock has better quality or atleast equal to that of a Strider folder.

Also most the Emerson quality issues are way overstated. It is mostly an issue with the knives being abit rough. Vastly most of them work fine. The cqc7 is one of my all time favourite knives despite being a little rough finished compared to say a Spyderco or Benchmade. The design is outstanding.

PM2 > Horseman. I'm one of those people who aren't impressed with Emersons fit and finish for what you pay for them.

ZT is another great choice although many will stretch your budget.

Cold Steel Lawman is a great knife if you can get past the cheesy marketing (some people can't).

I am going to second that. Although I loved my Horseman (gave it up on pay it forward thread) I have bought two Emerson’s since. The fit/finish just sucks man. I really like Ernest Emerson and everything he stands for but the knives just need to catch up with the times. Bought a southern grind bad monkey, it is everything Emerson is not. It’s a perfect alternative and plenty tactical and functional. Check out one on S35. Alright tactical Benchmade Contego. Best of both worlds in a beautiful design Benchmade Crooked River!

There you go !
Reminds me of my brand new Spyderco Pattada.

sXe "says not his kind of knife"
(he doesn't know does he) (what he's missing, how good knife life can get . . .etc.,)

sXe,
Long, narrow, round handles . . . that blade shape on the Extreama . . . good stuff man  :)

The Pm2 is good stuff to but in another way it is just another slab sided pocket dweller. I have a bunch of Pm2s so I must think they are "alright"
Sill . . . in the hand give me the slim round handled knife.

Which Spydie is that next to the PM2? Great looking folder

Just went ahead and got the 0620 wasn’t even on my radar until a couple people suggested it. Thanks guys!

Now I need to replace the scale bc it’s ugly as sin anyone know where I can get one preferably a frag pattern one it would fit this knife well.
