I gotta say as an Emerson junkie the Commander or CQC-15 is the way to go if you have an 8 already!!! The mini 15 is a flat amazing blade!!!

Is the commander any harder to sharpen with the recurve blade ? Will a sharpmaker do the tdick?

Yes it will. Micro-, Mini-, or full-sized Commander all sharpen up well with the SM.
