Recommendation for a good everyday knife?

Hi, this is my first post on the forums, but I have been reading for a bit now...
I'm looking to buy a new knife, something to replace the Leatherman Micra I carried for a couple years and lost last time I was in Mexico (long story). Anyway, my main criteria for selecting it would be:
1. slim or comfortable profile for carrying in my pocket
2. reasonable price, i.e. in the ballpark of $50
3. good looks (I know, I know, I'm shallow. So sue me.)

What I'm leaning towards right now is the CRKT Crawford/Kasper black tactical folder http://www.crkt.com/tactflds.html
It's a little pricey but I think it looks very cool, plus I like the idea of the LAWKS system.

Anyway, I'd appreciate any thoughts... Thanks.

Joe

Kershaw Leek. Good knife, slim, and the Speedsafe is fun (but check your local laws).
Spyderco Delica/Endura (OK, not the best looking, but still damn fine knives)
Camillus EDC. Excellent knife for the money.
Benchmade 10300 Monocrome. Cheaper than the EDC, and not quite as good, but again, excellent knife for the price. Add a Leatherman Sqirt S4 (better than the Micra) for about the same price.

I have both a spyderco endura and a CRKT Crawford Casper pro, I use the endura all the time and love it, I never use the CRKT, in fact I have no idea where it is... it folded on me...with the LAWKS

SAK? I'd second that Paul!!! :)

Maybe, a victorinox huntsman? Or better yet a craftsman so you have the pliers too!!!

I will second the Kershaw Leek. Its slim, comfy, sharp as hell and looks cool. Check out the black boron coated version (around sixty bucks) and the speed safe opening is sweet.
Other ideas, Spydie native or calypso Jr, awesome cutters but not quite as sexy. They have better steel then the Kershaw but all of the Kershaws I have handled have been wicked sharp right out of the box and are easy to resharpen, so I don't know if the lack of super steel matters.

consider the Benchmade Monochrome, around $40, very hard and durable steel, elegant design, great looking, framelock. All stainless steel. It would be a good value at $80.

Look at the Leatherman "Juice" if your still into the multi tool thing.
They'r slim, lightweight and good looking with adodized handles offering a
choise of colors.

A Spyderco Native...nice steel, light, isn't the ugliest thing I've seen...should be findable in that price range.

Spydercos are wicked sharp out of box, always. Not a polished edge, but will readily shave.

I can't survive without my CalyJr., which I think has a very comfortable handle, and VG-10 is easy to resharpen. The native has a thicker handle, but will take up more pocket room.

I like my Kershaw scallion too, but not as much as my Caly.

well if ur laws let u ( im uk so no autos but semi auto is legal) go for the Buck rush.
v sharp, reliable and a looker. its my edc and i love it

My advice would be go for a Griptilian. They are nice knives, and they don't create a lot of splash when you take them out to do something. They are a compact, usable and light knife that can be taken just about anywhere.

any of the following will meet your criteria:

Spyderco stainless steel Delica or Endura
Kershaw Leek
CRKT M16 (the slim, EDC series)
Camillus CUDA EDC
SOG Twitch II or XL (probably the best looker of the bunch)

abe m.

Spend just alittle bit more $ and get yourself a Benchmade 556 Mini-Griptilian.

...Trust me on this.:).

Ditto on the CRKT. Mine's gone also. I only have 1 folder, but it's a Sebbie and a bit out of your price specs. My thumbs don't work so good, so a fixed blade is a must for me. A lot of nice folders in your price range mentioned. Good Luck!

What bladelength do you want/need.

I, like many here, am enamored with spyderco products for value. Just better blades for the buck. I do love the Axis lock but with practice but I have yet to find a knife that isn't pretty easy to manage with one hand. I find the framelock on the Monochrome a little difficult due to insufficient cutout on the obverse scale.

I highly recommend the following that can all be found in your price range:
Calypso Jr.
Delica (either FRN or SS)
Endura
Goddard
Cricket SS
S30V or VG10 Native
Centofante III
SS Kiwi
Jester
Scorpius
Dragonfly

Hard to argue with SAK. Also, excellent value.

i have spent about a month with a Benchmade mini griptillian. great knife, good steel, (440C) and that axis lock! think about it.

Take a look at:
Spyderco Delica/Endura/Native
Benchmade Grip/Mini-Grip

Can't go wrong with any of these.
