Recommendation for a good everyday knife?

another vote for SAKs. you can determine how slim you want it by choosing a standard model or a more complete one, and the look of it is very good (look at this shiny steel and these translucent (Cybertool) or metallic (alox) handles... you can choose any Victorinox it'll be excellent quality anyway. (wenger too, to what is said about them)
if you want a locking blade knife, Wenger have some of their SAKs whitch are (not every wenger's SAK, check the characteristics).

I think it speaks for itself, but if you don't speak knife, then I will translate:
"Hello. I'm the M-16 compact! I have an AUS-8 stainless steel blade which equals a superior edge retention to many knives listed here. I have a Titanium Nitride coating that makes me almost impossible to scratch, so I can stay pretty! I have a carson flipper which makes me easy to open with one hand. I'm sleek, I weigh very lite because my handle is constructed out of hardened T6 aluminium scales and stainless steel locking bar. I have a removable clip that makes me very accessable all the time! If you don't lose me, then I can always come through for you because I have a lifetime warranty! And last but not least, you can find me all over the internet for under $50!"

I hope I didn't come off as to patronizing.
...That was actually kind of fun.
