Hello, I like short knives with a fat belly, such as the old Gerber flayer. I would be grateful for any recommendations/pointers on this one. Thanks!

I too love a knife with a Big Belly. The problem is the more disproportionate the Belly the less you will see of them (I think).

I would recommend looking here on BF at the MAKERS Forums and find someone who will make you one to your taste. I did this and was very happy.

I'm sure more folks will be along but I can't really think of any Production knives that have a Big Belly like you and I are talking about.

check out Bark River, they make excellent knives and have several offerings similar to what you're looking for. The Wolf River seems closest to what you want, they run about $90-125 online.

if you're looking for a cheap fixxed blade check out the CS Canadian Belt knife or Roach Belly. the materials are only mediocre but they are tough knifes and the prices are unbeatable, about $10-12 at various online retailers.

If you want a folder, the Boker Subcoms are short, and have fat blades with a big belly.

If you are thinking about a relatively inexpensive fixed blade I love my Buck 103:
Buck 103

Buck has several models with quite a bit of belly in various blade shapes in both folding and fixed.

You can still find the Gerber Flayers online used although you will seldom find it with the sheath and steel combo.

For those who haven't seen one of these...here's mine...

Check out the ROSarms line-up. I've seen a few knives, like their Edelweiss, with a huge belly, and am becoming more interested in these rather unique knives. Vassilli (nozh2002) just did a sort-of review of one on the knife reviews and testing forum.
