Heres a pic of the real deal ( in book ) and an example of a replica - more exact than Svords interpretation.

Heres his book

Not quite correct. The Svord VTB is a replica of Ferdinand Von Tempskys personal knife. The only diff , Vons was handled in whale bone with scrimshaw. The scrimshaw was of the names the places & battles he was involved.

The picture in the book is from a modern interpretation . From memory it was for a NZ knife guild competition??

Von had 2 batches of knives ,no more than 30 made for his Forest Ranger regiment.

Here is a genuine NZ Forest Ranger knife. Picture taken in the early 1900s.

And mine.

LOLOL So show me the picture of Von Tempsky's original.
Surely that is what is depicted by the knife laying on the open book. Something akin to that.
The VT marketing on the Svord knife is just that I think. It is a very cool knife though!

..There is an original VON TEMPSKY bowie in the Waikato museum..next time im there i will take a photo and post a pic........FES

That would be fantastic and I'd definitely love to see pictures of it.

As for (non costume jewelry) versions of the knife, are there any available from any knife maker that stays as true as possible to Von Temsky's knife?

Check out Ken Richardson on The Bay, custom knives for a working mans budget

Thanks, I'll take a look and see what pops up. Unless that message wasn't directed towards me.

I can send you a link to a doco, that shows it. Pm me if you are interested.

A ton of cheap shit is just that. Dump it, and get a real knife.

Yes. It was made to be used. A bit too big for every day, but great when out in the woods.

You can only use one knife at a time. Why buy a bunch of cheap stuff when you can have one really good one? Most Bowies never get used; they're not extremely practical for regular use. I have some that don't get used, but the Patton does.
